I will be dropping my tank for the fuel pump replacement and remember reading somewhere that on the tank is a number or something and that will identify whether your tank is the regular or larger size one. I just would like to know so any help would be appreciated.

I think all 95 SHOs got the same size tank. Look in your owners manual.

according to my service manual,

3.0L (183 CID) has a 16 gal.(60.6L) tank with an optional 18.4 gal(69.6L)tank....

and 3.0L/3.2L SHO (183/195 CID) has a 18.4 gal
(69.6L)tank....

service manual published on July, 1992....

So does that mean that when the guage is just above the red line you still have about 3 gallons left? Because if I fill up from that point it's always right around 15.0 gallons to fill it.

To help protect the fuel pump from overheating, the fuel gauge will read a little less than what you actually have in the tank. So yes, when your gauge reads empty, you will have a few gallons "reserve".

The reason I think that my tank is the 16 gallon one is when my gauge shows that it's on the line right before the empty, red zone, I will fill it up and the most I ever put in was 13 gallons before it stopped. Sounds like a smaller tank to me.

well u also have to figure in how much gas is still in the tank when u fill up i mean if u fill up at a quarter tank or an eighth of a tank u still have some in there..and if our tanks have a reserve in them that area still is gonna have fuel as well

Some SHO's low fuel sign comes on when there's still 7 gallons so that would be 11.4 for yours. When mine comes on and I fill right away it takes only 12-13 gallons but I know my tank is 18.6 as for Bob(jed head) he was on his last leg and I don't understand how you have an 18.6 gallon tank like the 89 & 90 SHO, maybe your 91 got the 89-90 tank, because from 91-up all SHO's had the 18.4 gallon tank. I had filled up once and it took 17 gallons and that was the last time I'll take it that far and risk messing up that fuel pump.

i dunno about 7 gallons but at the point my fuel light comes on I can go about another 100 miles before it runs out. And..I have run it out a couple times when not paying attention.

I believe he was asking how to distinguish between the two. I have a 93 MTX and a 95 ATX an both manuals tell you it could be either or. However, how do you tell? I would like to know the difference as well.
