SHO U UP
SHO Guru
After nearly a week of trial and tribulation, tonight I finally finished my cold air intake kit for my 2010. I lost track of hours long ago as I also started to dismantle the front end at nearly the same time. I'm also taking the plunge for us folks with the Ingot Silver and getting my chome painted I hope next week. Like Kirk said, that grill is a major PITA!!! Everything else was fine to remove, but it has been 25 degrees outside with a wind chill that cuts right thru you, so even know my garage was between 60-65, the tabs still needed a little bit of the heat gun to persuade to pop out. And none broke. :woo-hoo: So, here is my list that needs/needed to be done.
1. CAI (done)
2. chome painting (next week, I hope)
3. powdercoat/paint brakes (2-3 weeks)
4. tint front headlights (next week, I hope)
5. SCT (not soon enough, I have 3 on my shelf at work)
6. powdercoat intake/valve covers (who knows)
7. a different trunk badging (next week)
8. paint the lower cladding (when I come into some mo' money)
9. exhaust (when I come into even mo' money)
OK, let me download some pics for those who care to see what my intake looks like.

Everything was hand made by me, then powdercoated wrinkle finish to appear like stock. The metal I got from a friend who is in the welding business, and I have my own metal brake tools here at home. Instead of welding it up, I used rivets to make the sides attach to the base. My biggest obstacle was the tranny dipstick. For those who do not know, it resembles the oil cap but has a built in dipstick. The previous SHO tranny dipsticks resemble the oil dip stick on the 2010. Oh, and the front casing of the tranny is plastic. Similar to the Toyota timing belt covers. Plus the starter is right on top the motor, to the left of the battery.
I had to give it enough height to bypass that cap though. Anyways, the tube was off my old F-150 intake, and I had spare materials from doing the V-6/V-8 SHO intakes in the past. I have a bunch of various intake parts, K& N filters, AFE filters, Volant parts, etc. here from my Lightnings, previous SHOs, Mustangs, F-250s, etc. so I had a wide array of parts to test fit and see what worked best. It is all 3.5" to help aid the air flow better as well. Couple brackets, nuts & bolts and it is all done. This one was by far harder to craft than the older SHO intakes. And I know many intakes will become available for the SHO and I think Kirk said he was working on some too. It is not perfect by any means, but does help the look under the hood I feel. I should be able to feel a little power out of it, but even if I receive no performance gains at all, I'm liking the way it turned out. Too bad I can't try it out till my car is back together. DOH!! Let me know what you guys think.
