My SHO needs a new water pump....

I just realized today my water pump is leaking. When I get it changed out what else should I replace while i am there. I can't afford a full 60k, but I might as well get a few items of it done while I have the water pump out.

Its an 89 with 166k miles.

The timing belt has to come off to change the water pump, so replace it while you have the front of the engine torn apart. The crank position sensor should be replaced as well; it involves a bit more work to get to it, but it's not very difficult. If you're feeling frisky you can change the lower radiator hose while you're down there.

Clean up your crank shaft, dampener pully and sprocket while your down there. Brake parts cleaner works well...just make sure you get it off. 3-1 oil is a good ****...real fine grit sand paper or steel whool works good for shining up the crank shaft. Sprocket and pulley go back on so much easier afterwords.

If you have trouble w/crank bolt...use the starter-bump method. Place a rachet on the subframe while on the crank bolt, hook up batteries and crank for about a second. Bolt should brake loose. Good luck. I just did this last week...careful with that timing aswell. Keep a permentant marker handy so you remember the marks.
