Yeah, right.

The trouble is, it sounds like it's a turbo. I don't know if this is just normal gear whine or it's one of my accessories going bad. (PLEASE don't say it's the power steering pump!)

The car has been doing this for a while, but I just remembered that I wanted to ask about it.

When accelerating, I can hear a sound similar to a spooling turbo (it acually sounds really cool). Once I hit the secondaries it's pretty much drowned out but I think it's still there.

When I let off WOT it almost sounds like a BOV. At idle I cannot detect the sound of any bad bearings or anything.

If the timing belt was too tight could that cause this sound? It is brand new... If so I should take care of that. What if the timing belt tensioner was going bad? When I did my 60k it felt a little gritty but not too bad... What do you think?

Mechanic's stethoscope - $10 or less. Get one so you don't have to guess.

Probably air in the PS system. Perform a vacuum-assisted purge using the procedure in the service manual.

Nothing can substitute you tracing it down. FWIW, I had a bad timing belt tensioner and had an annoying whining sound.

could be a leak in the IAB or in the intake somewhere. When you let off the throttle at WOT, there is an instant pressure drop (LESS vaccuum) in the intake manifold. The air crammed in there will leak out through the easiest spot possible...a leak of some sort.

Yeah, then I'll remove my hood and have my wife drive while I strap myself to the engine and then hold on to something... lol

Like I said, the engine sounds totally normal at idle... today I listened closely for it and I found that it starts right at about 3k RPM and then get's drowned out at 4k.

I'm trying to think if it does it while parked, I'm going to check that today...

Yep - mine made the same sound but was quiet at idle. Then one day it got really noisy.

I have also have the same thing. At around 2800 it sounds like a supercharger though. I have had this sound since I got the car.

dont rule out a failing donut exhaust gasket. The car was not much louder, but it definitly sounded like a turbo spooling up when i went to WOT. Just a suggestion.

Okay, update on this:

I checked it out, and when the car is in neutral and i rev it up to 4k RPM it does not make the sounds, only when I'm driving and most noticable in third gear... i'm thinking tranny noise... the "BOV" sounds happens, not when I let off the throttle, but when I am shifting to the next gear (syncros?)

My tranny is notchy but zero grinding...
