Just as my title states...I have a 1989 MTX SHO 115k....Anyway It seems to run ok when at idle, but when I put it under load it backfires. Also some misfiring at idle. I was wondering could the backfire and the misfire at idle be caused by bad fuel. Any help would be great Anthony.L Ky......

Welcome!

yes, bad fuel can cause misfires. has it been standing for an extended time?

what are the codes? (go to shotimes.com and follow the excellent instructions there to pull the codes and let us know what they are.)

Lots of similar past threads you can search for information on misfire issues. Check for oil in plug wells and condition of ignition wires.

Could be lots of things . Plugs, wires, DIS module , bad ground on the intake , clean the MAF , bad cam sensor, timing jumped a tooth.

Id start with the easy stuff and search the forum for more details.

Is it misfiring or backfiring ? those are completely different issues. A backfire is a spark timing issue, while misfire is a spark or fuel issue
