This project took too much time, but then again i dont have very nice tools.
anyway here is to finishing it

If you look close at the picture of the MAF you will see that there is a hole. Im not sure if it was there when i purchased the car or what, but i noticed it and was like
what can i do about it? will it hurt anything if i just have some tape over it for now? there is sill SEMI-cracked metal in the opening, but i dident want to mess with so i put tape there to keep anything from getting sucked into the small opening, (about the size of a pencil earacor)

that MAF doesent seem like metal that could be welded on (for a patch fix)
but i have no idea? anyone know if u could weld that safely?

Your MAF is aluminum. You cannot weld aluminum (easily).
DO NOT PUT TAPE ON THE INSIDE OF YOUR MAF! It will get sucked into the engine and/or damage the element in the sample tube of the MAF. You will need a new MAF, my friend.

I personally would be more concerned about where the hunk of aluminum went to that is missing out of that MAF. I would have to concour, you need a new MAF. I would do a temporary patch with anything less then aluminum duct tape applied to the OUTSIDE of the hole. Major concern would be sucking unfiltered crap into the engine. New MAF is around $175 last time I bought one.

thanks guys.

I was also very worried about the metal hunk that is missing. I searced for it and it is not inbetween the MAF and the motor. so it either already got sucked in (doubt it, I think i would hear somthing) or already fell out when i opened it.

time to search for a MAF, is there any options when it comes to replacment?

I think your only option is the Ford 80mm MAF. I do not know of any aftermarket MAFs for us, though I could be wrong.
Contact Kirk, he may have a few extras lying around. When I needed a new one, I got one from him. Cheaper than $75.

WhatNext-

Once you replace the MAF, be sure you put the right brake pads on that car!

Looks like the MAF was dropped and something punctured the bottom. Whatever the cause it is ruined. Get the plastic one for the '98-'99 SHOs as a replacement.

You really need to use some jack stands and get a good jack. That POS jack will **** you or cause grievous bodily harm.

Thanks for the advice everyone.

80 MAF , will I have to get a modified program for this?

Plastic MAF, Is there really any difference between this and the metal one?

Jacks under the car, You cant see form the picture but I have 2 of those crappy jacks under the car for added securrity.

Brakes, They are on the list, but with what should I replace them with?

Your stock MAF sensor is 80mm. There is no reason to upgrade from that, and as long as you use a 80mm MAF from a mid-to-late nineties Ford product, it will be plug and play. Many Lincoln cars use the same MAF as our SHOs, and as Paul said, the later ones are plastic and don't heat up as much.

Shouldn't any 80mm ford style maf work? It's all the same thing, just make sure it's for 19# injectors and it's 4 prong. The 2000 and up GT's use the same MAF as we do as far as I know, you could try one of thoughs.

The key is the 19# injectors. From what I understand from Doug the MAF is tuned for the size injectors in the engine. The stock injector is 19# so you should stick to the stock MAF unless you plan and going to the bottle or with a supercharger and upgrading to bigger infectors, which of itself is a bit of work. A plastic MAF would be a good choice in any case since it doesn't heat up as fast.

Im still very afraid to drive this car, being that i dont know where the chunk of metal went. But if it was on its way into the engine, would it have already done its damage, Or is there a possiblity that this is just a time bomb?

Anyone have a plastic MAF for sale?

It could be laying in the bottom of the surge tank. It's a pain in the **** to remove, but if you have a couple hours, I would do it. If you don't find it anywhere in the intake tract (check all the way down to the intake valves) then it has probably either already gone through the engine, or it is laying on the shop floor where the MAF was dropped in the first place.

Clean everything up with Berryman's B-12 while you have it apart. :thumb:

The first time I took mu surge tank off I found a clip for the cowling in there. before the only time I know of the intake being off is when the dealer did a tune up right after I bought the car.

Is the surge tank designed to hold onto derbis? why hasent it already done its damage if its really in there? the reason that i ask is because this car was just taken apart and given the 100K . the yamaha is healthy and I dont want to tear it apart for nothing. or is it a time bomb?

also, when i took this apart, I never removed the MAF its self. It was broke like that when i took the airbox off and seen it. So is it even at all possible that I am the one that broke it? or was it likely from the previous owner?
