My dash is starting to look like crap. Just yesterday a giant front to back crack appeared right over the instrument cluster. Has anyone here installed one of these over their dash:

I have seen one installed in an old 280 Z and it did not look bad. I'm thinking that it might be good enough until I can decide if I want to send a dash to be rebuilt at Just Dashes.

what exactly is it? A piece of plastic to prevent the breakdown of a vinyl dash over time?

do you have a picture of the cracked dash? I've never seen or heard of this in a taurus before.

Crack Dash

Down south this seems fairly common. The intense direct sunlight I believe amplifies this. Out of 5 gen1's three have the exact crack. The two northern cars we have, the dashes are fine. Mike

Yea my texas 89 has this same problem. I just bought a carpeted mat thats embroidered with the name bandit and it sits there and covers it well. Helps eliminate glare too. If you want a pic of how mine looks ( even though its on the 89 dash) let me know and ill snap a pic and show u.

My dad had one of those hard covers put on his elcamino and it looked great but you could see the seam where it ended. However on your dash i would wonder if that seam would be hidden because of the style of the dash?

It's a hard plastic "shell" that fits over a cracked dash. In the south we don't get any rust but the interiors disintegrate. Right now there is a crack from the defroster vent to the instrument cluster, a pair going from the windshield to the defroster vent, another that is going from the defroster vent and stops after 3 inches or so located over the EATC area, under the rightmost vent there is a crack, and in the valley where instrument "****" blends into the area over the glove box the vinyl has shrunk away and a big chunk had broken out.

If you want another one in good shape I may have some stuff for sale in the spring. I bought one for my '90 in Pittsburgh a few years ago and never put it in.
