Well I just bought another SHO, it's a 1989 MTX with 116k on it. The owner whom was 80 years old told me he was driving down the street at 25 when all the sudden it would not move anymore! No noises, no nothing.

I thought I would see a hole in the trans case or something like that but its solid and no fluid has leaked. Both axles appear to be fine also, you can even roll the car and it doesnt make any noise.

What are known problems with this trans that could cause this? the car goes into every gear fine and the clutch feels good aswell. It just wont move, at all!!

Thank you in advance
Jamie

I will check the cable tonite. It feels like the cable is fine though, the clutch feels normal when pushed. i guess while im at it I will also check under the car to see if the axle has popped out and i just didnt see it.

Probably not though because there is no fluid on the ground or on the bottom of the trans or anyhthing...

How about the imput shaft? does these break on these cars?

Yes they do...at about the same rate as any other car.

Now for something completely different...

The crankshaft connected to the...fly wheel.
The fly wheel connected to the...pressure plate
The pressure plate connected to the...clutch disk
The clutch disk connected to the...input shaft
The input shaft connected to the...lay shaft
The lay shaft connected to the...output shaft
The output shaft connected to the...differential
The differential connected to the...axle shafts
The axle shafts connected to the...wheel hubs
The wheel hubs connected to the...wheel
And this is the game with the SHO
That car's gonna drive around town
And this is the game with the SHO

the old man broke it before you bought it ? if so, a precise answer can not be concluded simply because 1) you dont know what gear he was in, 2) C'mon, hes 80, hows he gonna hear specific noises ?

the clutch cable wouldnt matter, because if it broke, the clutch would stay engaged. halfshafts make LOTS of noise when they break, and tend to destroy axle seals which results in fluid leakage. if i knew any better, id presume he was doing 25mph in 3rd gear. and we all know what happens to 3rd gear when lugged repeatedly (or applied with forced induction). or he has slipped the clutch so much that the clutch disc is worn out.

give us some more details about the car. will it start and run ? can you shift into all gears with engine running and engine off ? is it easier to shift when the engine is off ?

The car fires right up and runs tigh as a whistle. It shifts great in everygear, you can feel it going into gear and even hear the distinct sound when you shift it into reverse. the gears shift the same weither the car is off or running, I have not checked for speedo movment yet.

I was going to look at it today but i was too busy. this weekend i will be tracking it down. it seems like there is just no clutch disk in there but im not sure at this point.
