Hey,

I was curious if anyone knows the importance of the bracket that is supposed to keep wiring off the top of the MTX. The '94 still doesn't feel like it should, and I discovered this item was not reinstalled after the clutch job (that I didn't do). Ugh. :nut:

Could the lack of this bracket possibly cause the clutch pedal to be heavy if wiring and stuff is getting in the way during shifting?

Generally not. That bracket gets left off all the time, and I think was not even installed by the factory in some cases.

Nevertheless, it is annoying when somebody doesn't replace something that was there previous to the maintenance. You should be able to see whether any of the harness or other bits is interfering with the clutch fork lever, which is on top of the transmission in front of the driver. If needed, you can remove the top of the airbox and the rubber intake hose to get a bit better view of the area, then have somebody step on the clutch to see whether there's any interference.

I'll be surprised if that's the problem. It's perhaps more likely that you may just be feeling a difference in the resistance in the new pressure plate.

I should have clarified - the clutch job was done quite some time ago now, but it has never felt as smooth or as good as the clutch I originally put in. (The first clutch was torched after ~10k when it went in for some shop repair and came back with slipping at high RPMs, eventually failing). I just couldn't do another clutch job due to the circumstances at the time so it was taken to a SHO mechanic (a different place from the first one, who I wouldn't let touch the cars ever again), who we thought would do a decent job.

The pedal has felt heavier and less smooth since then. I'm guessing that proper greasing did not take place on the fork bushings or TOB and the detail I paid to it was not close to being repeated if they left off a bracket! I just noticed the other day when I was checking things routinely that the bracket wasn't even present, so I figured I should check and see if it had much effect on the clutch linkage.
