Are the two bolts on the underside of the car that secure the shifter mechanism to its mounting bracket suppose to be tight, or left a little loose so the shifter can slide with the engine as it moves around in response to torque? The reason I am asking is I hear some creaking noise from the shifter when I start out from a stop, either forward or in reverse. I disassembled the shifter and re-greased it during my clutch job; did not see anything wrong but maybe I missed something.

They are supposed to be tight , the block's job is to slide front to back with the movement of the engine. The ends of that block was some plastic bushings at the end of it.

Does anyone have a picture of the bracket that holds the shifter assembly to the bottom of the floor pan. I bought a rod set up but it didn't come with the bracket or plate that goes on the floor. Figure I'll make my own.
