Is the MTX rebuild video really worth getting? It seems like it's either $30 or $45 and all I really need to do is open up the tranny and find out what gear I installed upside down or inside out that stopped reverse from working. It seems like the sort of problem that would be better solved with a good exploded view diagram, but, if that's the sort of thing the video would help me out with, I'm all for it.

Aren't there exploded views in the Helms manuals? If so, I have one for each generation.

Backwards gear is a thought, but reverse worked for three days before it went. I either cracked a synchro (hope not) or the reverse detent went over-center/got jammed up by something. I guess it's also possible something in the reverse idler shaft gave way, but it doesn't really matter what it is, I still have to take the dang thing apart a 4th time.

Jeez, tonight I thought I was going to need a new transmission. Turns out one of the two rods from the rod shifter snapped in half. Doh!

Anyone have an extra rod shifter I can buy off them?

I think I have one. I'll check and get back with you. If I don't, can't we just weld it back together, maybe with a sleeve?

Tom

Well I don't; have just the bottom bracket with rubber boot. I don't know what happened to the rod shifter. I was saving one for the enventual conversion of Bondurant #99, but I guess I mis-placed it. Sorry. Offer to weld it for you still stands.

Thanks for checking Tom. I thought for sure you'd have a "spare" that you were looking to get rid of for some money. I think it's too rusty to weld too... Guess I'll be hitting up the junkyard this weekend, probably Sunday. Anyone know what Ecology has in stock?

I might actually have that video Troy. If I do, I will bring it to the Pavillions next week. Is that too long of a wait?

I'm not gonna make it to the Pavillions tonight. If you're comfortable with it, can you leave the video with Tom and I'll go up to Tom's and grab the video and the engine stand once my legs are less "mushy" and mail it back to you. Oh yeah, leave your address too, cause, you know, that makes mailing things easier.
