ah yuz I might have to end my vacation early and go back to working on transmissions hahahaha

Although I've never seen a MTX-4 in person lol

Kelvin if u need help I can bring up a good transsmission service manual on this that has diagrams to show how everything should be installed, installation instructions, dissasembly instructions etc, specifications... etc. Pretty much everything you ever wanted to know on a transmission.

Thanks, guys. It was rebuilt by Bizzy. No, there's no RTV, just the anaerobic sealer.

Thanks guys. I was planning to open it up today, but I ended up having to work all day and night so I'm pretty tired. I'm not sure if I feel like doing it or not. I've been looking at the Helms, but without opening the case its not much help. Needless to say, I'm rather aggravated about this.

No, its not the same problem that Chris had. I've been talking with him and we're probably just going to rebuild and install our Quaifes in different transmissions.

Just open it, nothings hard about it, just like a walk through the park. You're going to have to open it again, anyways, to get the Quaife out. Also, I hope you have the tools to re-shim the Quaife in a different transmission. Easiest thing to do is just open it up and look for the problem. It can be something simple! If anything, crack it open and take some pictures, then post them.

I would, but between work and scrambling to get ready for the convention, I'm not too concerned about this thing at the moment.

After playing with it some more, the input shaft won't turn when I put the shift shaft all the way in or out.

How are you turning the input shaft with the case on?

K-Dawg, any luck finding out what's wrong with the tranny if anything? I can't say that I've ever tried turning the input shaft with a tranny out, but the shift shaft should move freely through all the gears. And it'd be kinda hard for it to be stuck in reverse.

The shift shaft does move through all the gears. I believe it engages the gears inside the trans as well. It appears that the lever or whatever that takes it out of reverse is broken (or not functioning for some reason). In other words, no matter where the shift shaft is and what gear the trans is in, its also in reverse. I'm very busy getting the car ready for the convention and honestly this isn't the highest of my priorities right now, so it'll have to wait.

You know Rockledge had a problem with his reverse lever inside the transmission. I can't recall what exactly happened and what the symptoms were, but I know I shipped him out a replacement part. :)

Tried to get it going, but to no avail. :frown: Even with the part you sent (thanks again for the fast shipping :thumb:) and my replacing the synchro insert the tranny still wouldn't shift into reverse. Ended up getting a used MTX from NESHO so I could get things moving again.

I still have the old tranny, and when I get a chance and some extra coin maybe I'll see if it can be fixed. At worst, it's got a good case and no diff pin issues, so it's good to have around as a spare. ;)

Make sure all your bearing cups are seated in the case housing, check your shift shafts and forks, make sure nothing is bent. Check your synrcos and make sure you havent lost any of the springs or the little pins.

Wow, sorry to hear about that.

If you want, you can ship the transmission to me and I will completely look it over and go as far to disassemble everything and install everything back to insure proper placement. All of this for free, just the cost to ship it back. And don't worry, I've already took many transmissions apart and rebuilt my own. :)
