So my mtx leaks, not a huge leak but every time I get under the car I can see it weeping out between the case halves. And When I work on the car in the car port for a couple days it will leave a spot. My MTX's fill plug is not coming out. Trust me its not, its been rounded out. I have been adding a quart of ATF every month or so but my question is, Whats the worst that could happen if its over filled? I know running low on fluid could be explosive to the trans.

Edjukate me.

I don't see where over filling it would **** anything. Maybe add more drag inside of the transmission from the fluid. I think there is a vent it would come out of if it were too full (maybe I'm wrong).

I didnt think you could over fill it. To the fill hole is full, anything else just comes out of it.

Yes, you can't really overfill it. Know how I know this? When I changed mine in the 89, apparently I thought I took out more than I did. When I proceeded to funnel in a nice 3 qts and pulled the hose from underneath, I received a nice bath in trans fluid. It will leak out until it gets to the fill hole.

He said his fill plug won't come out, so I assume he is filling it up by the reverse switch?
I don't exactly recall at what exact height the plug is, but look the difference between the plug and the axles.
If I remember correctly, oil should come out when you pop an axle, but no more than 1/2 a quart. (again, IIRC) You could look at it, and pop on axle out to give you an idea of how much oil you have in your trans.

Edit :
And the fill plug is made of steel. You could also weld on a bolt, then screw it off, and put a new plug in.

If its leaking between the case halves at some point you need to remove it, split the cases and re-seal with Permatex 51031 aerobic sealant. but do what you will til you can get around to fixing it the right way.

This is more the situation. If I dont have the fill hole plug out and I over fill the trans whats the worse that can happen? Blow out axle seals? Removing a axle just to check the fluid level sounds like a waste of time and a big pain in the ass.

the worst thing that can happen w/ too much oil is to blow out the input shaft seal and ruin the clutch.

I think what you are doing is the reasonable thing to do until you can pull the trans and re-seal it and fix the fill plug. Try shining a flashlight down in the top hole to see if you can see the fluid level.
