I'm looking for a replacement transmission fill plug. Apparently it has yet another funky size and pitch, which means I have to order it from someplace.
My measurements lead me to believe the plug is 21mm dia, with a 1.50 pitch. Can anyone confirm that please?
I didn't even see one on rockauto, mtx or atx. But calipers dont lie, it's probably an M21-1.5. If you have a dedicated nut/bolt store in your town I'd go there. We have a place in amarillo called amarillo bolt that has damn near anything you need fastener wise. You might check out something like that.
Yeah I did an extensive online search and came up with nada. I also took it to the local fastener shop - AK bolt and chain, and they said I'd need to have one made.
I'm thinking about finding a large socket-head bolt that I can have machined down to a M21. Naturally there are taps and dies in that size available - just not bolts or nuts - go figure.
Most fill plugs like these are pipe thread which is tapered so that as you tighten it it gets tighter in the hole causing a compression seal.
Not positive but based on your dimensions it looks to be a 1/2 in pipe plug to me.
Any regular ol hardware store should have one in stock to compare yours to.
Go to any autoparts store. Dorman offers an assortment pack of plugs 1/8th up to 3/4". All parts stores have bins in the back with brass fittings. Tell them you are looking for Pipe Thread Plug and they should know what you mean.
