msd wires

Has anyone tried MSD wires on their SHO? I got a great deal on a set of Autolite wires, but I want to make sure that I get the right set. I know everyone likes the Motorcraft wires also. Are the Autolite the same as the Motorcraft? Thanks!!!

If the MSD wires are made for the SHO go ahead and use them, but avoid the autolites, they are not the same as the Motorcraft. You can also use Taylor wires which are a great fit with stock plugs, they come in blue or red.

MSD does not make a custom fit wire set for the '89-95 3.0L/3.2L V6 Taurus SHO. Several other companies do though including; ACCEL, Taylor, Magnecore, BWD, etc...

I called MSD and they do not offer a direct replacment set of plug wires. I had a part# from their catalog but not the right ones! I thought Autolite made the plug wires for Ford?

I would also avoid the Autolite wires. I prefer the Motorcraft wires. They are worth the extra $$$ thumbs_u

Get the Taylor 10mm race wires! They kick ass.

I got Taylor wires from summit racing, 1800 230 3030, dont have a part # handy, but tell them the application and they will get them for you.

I for one have a set of Accel wires on my car, and am happy with them. The only difference is that some of 'em are a little bit longer than the original, but nothing you can't work with. Doug Lewis called them fat pieces of ........ while he did my 60K, but he really couldn't explain why. Interesting. But they seal correctly and have worked fine for about 30K so far. Also using NGK PFR-5G11 plugs, which are perfect size, and everything. IMO, the only plug/wire combination that will give you trouble is the cheap stuff.

Like most aftermarket wire sets for the V6 SHO, ACCEL combined the ATX and MTX applications, so the wire lengths would seem to be a little long on an MTX. Not sure why Doug doesn't like the ACCEL sets, but then again maybe all he sells is the Motorcraft or Magnecore sets wink

Do not use auto-lites! My buddy did and it ended up that the wires did not stay on the plugs, and kept popping off making his car run like dump.

an easy fix for the cheap plug wires ie. autolite is poke a small hole in the top of the boot so it will vent air and it will stay on. as far as cheapies i run borg warner nascar selects on my 89 i had to put the vent holes in the boots myself but i haven't had any problems with them yet.

One of the auto parts chains sell them (I can't recall which one at the moment...).

Gawd people, is it really worth trying to save $15-$20 when the Motorcraft wires from FPN are $83.99 and proven to work perfectly every single time??? shrug If they were good enough for your car the first 100K+ miles, they should be good enough for the next 100K. This is one of those items that you don't want to skimp on! If you can't afford the right wires, you probably can't afford to own a SHO! eek!

Well last time i priced motorcraft wires it was $180 for the set at our local Checkers. So are they just over pricing me by a shit load, if so were should/could I get them. The only auto part store we have is: Checkers, NAPA, and Car Quest, and then we have the dealership. shrug

Well, maybe I made a mistake, but on FordPartsNetwork.com I searched for, and found WR4033:

Spark PLug Wire kit $187.04.

That's all I could find.
