Bingo - this is the number one reason my MTX at times gets lower MPG especially on the highway. Collpased factory brake lines, seized pins, you name it I've had it at one time or another.

My car was getting 19mpg (65%/35% city/hwy) until I checked the tires pressures!

They were at 29psi all the way around. Now I average 23mpg with 40psi in the tires.

Another thing is running the right plugs. My Cavalier calls for platinum plugs but it had some shit regular ones. That thing was only getting 26mpg on the hwy!! Now, 30+ all the time:woo-hoo:

1990 SHO MTX w/ 98K miles
Bought 09/08/2009 and changed the oil, tranny fluid, axle fluid, and fuel filter and all new monroe quick struts and drove it from Boise, Idaho to Mount Rainer to Mount Hood to the gorge and back.

Best: 23.82 MPG
Worst: 21.64 MPG

When I got back I pulled the spark plug boot and every plug hole was full of oil all the way up to the resistor! And the car ran wonderfully, really blew my mind!

Did the upper 60K, replaced the original 20 year old spark plugs with new motorcraft AGSP32PP, ( I figured what the **** the 1st ones lasted 20 years), and replaced the original 20 year old spark plug wires, both O2 sensors and now I cant keep my foot out of it
I save every gas receipt and it is only a weekend driver, now...

Best: 21.37 MPG
Worst: 15.93 MPG

I keep saying I will drive it mellow and I would love to do the exact same trip but I did not clean out the carbon & oil out of the intake, anyone know the best way to do that?
