I went out to the Motor Sports Ranch yesterday info seeking and found out how it works.

1. Is a club tour. This is $40. a head with a minim of 10, they give us a tour of the ranch, then we get on the track for a few pace laps to see how it feels to be on a road course.

2. Is a club day. This is $95 a head with a minim of 20 but no more than 32. This package is, 1st we take a safety class then onto the track for a bunch of brisk pace laps, then back to the classroom for some more instruction. Next we get back on the track for some more faster pace laps, then the group is broken down into 2 groups fast cars and faster cars. Next we get two open secessions that last for the rest of the day, one secession with each group.

3. We can have a race day. This gets real complicated. But we would have to buy an insurance policy for all of us for the day and there is a minim of 20. The insurance is $1200. Plus the cars have to be inspected and tuned before getting on the track.

All these require helmets which they can provide for $10.

95 bucks seems like a pretty good price.
I guess we just need to see how many are interested?
I'll feature the topic so it sticks around for a week or two.

Marty,
Congrats on the new Stang! I will call Baby L and then you later to let ya know an update. This above sounds like quite a bit of fun, but $1200 for insurance is a BIT steep! You gotta take a ride in the 93 with the coils! It will put your cheek against the passenger window in a hurry on a good curve! wink

If we have a race day we have to have a minim of 20. $1200 divided by 20 is $60 bucks a piece. Sounds like a better deal than the what the Cobra club is chargin for the College Station deal.

I'll have to do some more investagtion and make sure of what all the costs are, wouldn't want any sudden charges to sneak up on us if we try to have a race day.

The $95 buck deal is looking better and better. I think we should do this deal 1st and get a feel for the track. Then if we want to have a race we'll work on it from there.

Sergio has been to the Motor Sports Ranch we need to ask him what he thinks of the joint.

My vote is for the 2nd option. I think the extra instruction might be helpfull, depending on how good the teacher is. I like the price too. If I can swing it I will go. Just give enough advanced notice so I can plan the cash. (poor college student).

Hear me now and listen to me later...

There is no such thing as too much instruction. Option 2 sounds like a great deal. $95 is a great deal for that much track time with instruction. The facilities out there look great. I went out when the BMW club was out there this past spring. Couldn't run, SHO was dead and to run a roadster takes lots of prep and new safety equipment. We would have a blast.

OK I'm going out Sunday to see if the 27th of Sept. is still open. Tomorrow I'm going to the LS club meeting, since they are such a small group I will invite them to go as well.

Howdy everyone from down here in Beaumont, several of us here in Texas own Thunderbird SC's and have been toying with the idea of a meet and the subject of your getogether at the MSR came up. Would you mind if we came and visited with ya at your event? It might help with getting the required minimum you're lookin' for and I'm sure we could also share a ton of tech back & forth and just generally make an eventful day to remember.

Appreciate any thoughts ya might have on this subject, feel free to email if needed.

You'll love MSR. We did a "focus day" for Subarus back in March this year. For many of the participants it was their first time on a true road course track. Everybody had a blast. The team at MSR is great to work with. Small note, if you get close to the 20 minimum and need a few "other" cars to make the 20 count, you could post a note oon several other local/regional enthusiast boards. We had all 32 spots full and had to turn some away, but we had opened it up for a mix of cars on the track, even though Subaru was the "focus" marque. I'm thinking about buying a used SHO (I still have fond memories of the new SHO that I bought in '89), so that's what brought me to the boards here.

Regards,

GoodFinder :)

Appreciate that, I'll see what kind've trouble I can stir up on the boards. Be pretty cool to swap tech with some sidewinder 3.8's, not that our barges could hang with ya on the track but you can bet there'd be some great benchracin' goin' on!

thanks,

It's funny you posted here I was surfing the net Wednesday evening looking for a SC club here in Texas and all I could find was a club in Arizona. I was lookin for you guys to see if you guys would be interested in joining us at MSR.

Were you the guy that backed the SHO guys in a post on the SVT club a few months back?

Yea I have been telling all the SHO guys I'm thinking of starting my own car club called " ford bastards" or "bastards of ford" for us SHOs, the SCs, and the Probe guys since every time any of us go to a Ford dealership for parts the parts guys all look at us like why don't you buy a real Ford or like can't ya see I'm bussy getting parts that are still available.

I'd love to see your club there. I have some guys for the DFW Lincoln LS club coming as well.

The lsshoc has what we call fun runs 3 times a year that the SC club is more than welcome to come to as well. For info on our fall run this year or all our fun runs you can go to Club events and Announcements and read An open ivitation thread for all the details.

SHOmen I live in Cresson, TX and a member of MSR and SCCoA. tbird88 got hold of you and glad you feel SCers can join at MSR. I heard about you from the owner of MSR, Jack Farr some time ago who was trying to help me get hooked up with you. An 8-5-03 e-mail from him told me Spt 12 was tentativly scheduled and that it was not firm.

I don't have a whole lot of experience driving the bird at MSR since it lost some power, but took a class when they had cars for it. MSR does a very good job, I think. The class was very similar to the #2 $95 focus day. If you have not done this before it is a real good ice breaker and confidence builder.

Jack also said he was trying to get hold of someone in SHO. He didn't have time to get a password. All he has is a card from Don with web address on it. MSR is at 817-512-3162 or www.motorsportranch.com. I am at [email protected] or call my office number at 817-268-5700 if I can help. Would love to join you but we need to firm this up what ever date is agreed on. I can try to get some Lockheed guys as well to reach min but personaly would rather keep it within our "different" Fords if you know what I mean. Thanks, Doug

Cresson. Wow, I haven't heard that name in a few years. I'll bet I drove through Cresson a few thousand times during my 15 years of employment at Comanche Peak with TXU (TU) Electric. Many of my car's 278,950 miles were covered on Hwy 377 between Benbrook and Granbury. I even stopped at the fruit stands a few times. Have you bumped into George Strait lately?

Don and SHOmen, Here is the letter I got from Jack Farr owner of MSR. I don't remember who I have sent it to, and please delete it if I'm getting in the way. Just figure on arriving at Noon I would say as they want to start prompt at 1:pM. 3 classroom sessions, 2 lead and follow sessions, 2 25-minute Hot Lap sessions.

From MSRanch:
"Doug,

Here is a description of the thing we do called a "club day" that gets everyone some basic instruction and some track time. It is designed to accomodate even drivers who have never been on a track before or have limited experience:

****************************

The plan and times can be modified, but generally, a "club day" consists of a group of car/drivers that come out to visit MotorSport Ranch even during a member weekend - the minimum number we like to do is 20 cars, the maximum is 32. The cost is $95.00 per driver. There should be one driver per car, no sharing of cars. We allow passengers on the two "lead and follow" sessions, but not in the later sessions. Helmets are not required during the "lead and follow" sessions, but are required for the open sessions later. MotorSport Ranch has a supply of helmets for rent for $10.00 each. Each driver and passenger is required to sign the necessary insurance waiver.

Participants arrive before 1:00 p.m.
Beginning at about 1:00 p.m.
Intro and safety meeting
Lead and follow session #1
with pace cars
no helmets required
passengers allowed
Classroom session
Lead and follow session #2
with pace cars
no helmets required
passengers allowed
Classroom session

Beginning at about 5:00 p.m.
Break into two groups
more experienced
less experienced
Run two 25 minute sessions per group
no pace cars
helmets required
no passengers allowed
alternating sessions
up to 20 cars on the track at the same time
passing allowed only on the two longest straights
drive as fast as you feel comfortable with

Someone from the club is usually responsible for dealing with all the participants. It is highly recommended that the organizer of this event accept a non-refundable deposit (or payment in full) from the interested participants as a firm commitment of their intent to show up.

This program has proven to be a winning combination, is well structured, safe, and accommodates both the beginner and the more experienced drivers.

There is no problem having many cars and spectators show up, but we must limit the number of cars participating in the track sessions to 32.

Saturday seems to be the prefered day for a "club day" at the Ranch. As I look at the calendar for September, the only Saturday available right now is the 13th. Some Sundays would be available if you wish to do that.

Best regards,

Jack Farr"
