I found 2 out of the three spark plugs in front (near radiator side) soaked in motor oil :jpshakeh: , the third one seem oil free. The car seems to be running fine, idle a little rough sometime, rpm is steady and you can only feel slight vibration if you really pay attention to the "seat of your pants" kinda thing. Don't know if the other bank is leaking oil or not, not easily getting into on the firewall side. No noticable oil consumption, don't detect any coming out from tail pipe. Need to know how serious this is and what is causing it, any advice would be appreciated.

If you search for "oil in plug wells" you will come up with a HUGE wealth of information on this problem.

Your valve cover gaskets need to be replaced. You will also want to replace the Spark Plugs and Wires while you do this job. Additionally you will most likely need a pair of intake to head gaskets, which can be had for around $12.50 each.

Valve cover gasket kit from AutoZone: Felpro part# VS50378R $71.99 includes new valve cover gaskets and plug well seals. Replacing these is part of the 60/120k procedure. Like Chris said, many of this info is available via the search method. If you are unfamiliar with working on the SHO engine, purchase the 60k video from www.shonutperformance.com ; it serves as a great visual reference. Don't panic, oil in the plug wells is a very common SHO malady.

Thanks, just found the search you've suggested. By the way, mine is not over flowing to the top of the wells or anything like that but is it really damaging anything until I repair this? Thanks again.

In the meantime you can use the squirting nozzle and hose from a windex bottle to suck the oil out from the plug well and onto a rag.

It won't hurt the car itself- I ran mine for almost a year like that.

But if you fix the leaks right away maybe you won't have to buy new wire plugs $100+.....

If the wires get cracked at all the car starts to run like a TURD. :)

mine were like that too...i just cleaned them out for now...you see the oil goes in there, but it never comes out, so when they are full (like mine were) it is caused from a length of time, and not all at once...so if you can't fix it right away...you could just do that. I do however recommend fixing it. When I changed my ooil soaked plugs, it felt like a new car!!

I've ordered from RockAuto and they were pretty good.

I'm just a baby and wanted to stick to the Motorcraft wires. fordpartsnetwork.com was the ride on that one.
