89 mtx been my daily driver for about 2 years now. Through out the past 2 years i have tried making my own reinforced mounts with not much luck. Year and a half ago purchased the shonut extreme front motor mount along with a stock duralast rear mount and rcm tranny mount (stock). Worked fine for a while, but like always the motor startes moving again, but not when i got into the throttle just when i pushed in the clutch it would fill like the motor/tranny was falling back down, so i figured tranny mount. Found my old mount that was still it fare shape, so i took it work and drilled a hole and put a bolt through it with a bushing (i welded the bolt head to the mount so i could tourqe the nut once it was installed on the car) so i snugged down the nut until it looked like the rubber was pushing out the sides a little. Man what a difference, no movement at all, felt like a different car. Well after about 1000 miles and some hard driving the motor is defintly moving. With the e-brake down and in 1st gear and trying to take off the motor picks up about 2 inches, dosent move at all in reverse. Sometimes when cruising at a very lite throttle it feels like the car is chugging, give it some more throttle and it stops. I watch the front mount when doing test mentioned above and it dosent look to be broke. any ideas. I am thinking about going old school and just chaining the motor down to the subframe, what do you think? Sorry for being so long whinded, i just need advice and didnt want to leave anything out.

If i read this correctly you said that you replaced the rear MM with a stock one, and NOT a reienforced one right? If this is so, that'd be the first place I'd look!;)

I am about to take my mounts out and drill holes and use some bolts to keep them from moving.
I also have problem with drive train not being smooth.

I wish someone would make some solid mounts.

sorry but my engine dosent move at all in reverse, so the rear mount is good. With my friends 95 we put 4 1/2" L9 bolts through his front mount and it dosent move at all. i dont see how mine moves, the shonut mount has a huge solid round bar welded in it.

Things to check: motor mount bolts, AC compressor/motor mount bracket bolts, subframe bushings.

The chugging you feel at light throttle is from the stiffness of the drivetrain. The more solid you make the mounts, the more you'll feel this.

pretty sure everything is tight, but i need to change the oil so i will check everything out. thanks for all the replies. what do you think about chaining the motor to the subframe?? i was thinking bolt chain to head where the intake bracket bolts up, then go around the subframe and connect the chain with a bolt and washers. i problably wont chain it but just wondering what other people think.

IMNSHO, chaining it is not necessary. I'm running reinforced front and rear, and a stock trans mount. I get about an inch of movement. Keep in mind that your reinforced front mount still has rubber in it, and will flex a little. Combine that with the stock rear mount's ability to compress, and the movement you're seeing may be completely normal.

FWIW....the factory mounts were designed as the best compromise for a variety of situations. Seems like it's be best to either do the same mods to all of them or replace them all (as a set) with something stiffer. I just about went crazy with a similar movement problem until I discovered the local dealer's "mechanics" (ha) had left one of the nuts only finger tight. Are there any complete sets in the aftermarket?

Make sure the nuts on the front mount did not back out any. Over time, they will back out without anything keeping them in check.

Edit: Nevermind, just read it's a SHONUT Extreme mount. I'll leave this post for information during searches, though.

You need to check your subframe mounts and the mounting point on the frame, also check the a/c bracket as suggested. I had broke my bracket and the symptoms were completely like a torn front mount.
