I installed my y-pipe yesterday and when I went out for a test drive, I heard an exhaust leak...I looked it over and the bolt where the donut gasket is wasn't tight because it was too long....

Soooo, I took it to the exhaust shop, they cut the bolt a bit, now the connection is good and tight. But, there's still a leak.

They put the car in gear, stepped on the brake and gave it a little gas...the motor tilted forward big time...put it in reverse and the same thing. The guy says that when I gas it, the engine movement is causing the ****** to move and causes the leak. I saw it move when he did the test. Also, when I'm driving and I gas it hard, especially in first, I see the shifter move forward and down.

When I was installing the y-pipe, I saw that the rubber on the front motor mount (the mount on the passenger side on the front side of the engine) was pretty cracked. I'd post a picture, but I seem to be having problems with uploading them to cardomain.

Can bad motor mounts cause the leak because of the movement? Does this mean I need new mounts? There's two? How much work is it to put them in? Thanks for any info. :salute: :thumb:

Yeah sounds like your motor mounts are pretty much shot. Do you have a polished spot on your intake? Thats usually one of the signs of motor mount wear. I'm sure if you did a search you would find lots of information on where the motor mounts are and how to replace them.

A small polished spot on the passenger, rear side (as looking at it from the front). Do I need to do both mounts? How about the tranny mount? I'm familiar with the SHO, but I don't know if I could do the mounts by myself (or have the time without having the car on stands for a week).

Both your front and rear motor mounts need replacing. You dont have to worry about the transmission mount (front mount takes most of the abuse), so long as its still in place. The front mount is a bit of a nasty job but you wont have to lower the subframe to replace it; just jack up the motor enough to pull it out. You could get by with a new front mount for a while until you are ready to do the rear (build some confidence!). The rear mount is a PITA and you will need to lower the subframe to replace it. As for new mounts, I may be doing a few MM reinforcements (CHEAP!) on the side if my test mount holds up; PM me if you are interested.

If I install a front one, what is the max. amount of time I could wait until I replace the rear one? The car is my daily driver....

Who do you recommend I buy the mount from?

PM sent....

Also....what happens if I put in a flex pipe before I put in the new motor mount? Will the movement be to much for the flex pipe? I was thinking of putting a 10 inch, 3 ply, 2.25 inch inner diameter.

You need new mounts, dont rely on a flexpipe.

You should be happy! The extreeme reinforced mounts from SHOnut have been the single best mod to my car yet! The feel and sound is unparralelled, as is the difference you will notice on how the car drives, shifts, and accelerates.

You should replace both front and rear mounts simultaneously so that you do not overstress one or the other. Both of them are really quite easy to do, and this entire job should not take more than 3 hours.

Good luck!

Well, I'm putting in the reinforced mounts from SHOnut...I decided to buy them from him and will put them in as soon as they arrive. :D They may not be extreme mounts, but I think that they will be an improvement over the stock ones. :thumb: I'm also getting the leak I have from the y-pipe fixed. :salute:
