The other night I was getting on to a on ramp at a decent speed (trying out my new GR-2s and Intrax springs :) ) and hit a good size pothole. It was a fairly hard hit, and the car instantly came to a halt. After fiddling around for a flashlight, I found that the DIS module on the intake was smashed at the rear of the module, and thus the connector fell out.

Today I studied the engine compartment, and concluded that the motor must have been driven against the right hand side engine damper mount. It looks like the module was rubbing against the mount before, because there is a shinny spot on it. I also checked the sub-frame connectors, and motor mounts. The front motor mount looked fishy, so I took it out. The mount looks all right, but the rubber has pulled away from the metal in a few spots. The mount definitely has not failed completely, but is on its way out. The sub-frame connectors look ok, but are not the greatest (no visible tears).

Anyway I was wondering if anyone else has had this problem, and how did they correct it? I plan on getting a new front mount and reinforcing it, and taking out the rear mount and possibly reinforcing it too. I am also thinking about getting the aluminum sub-frame connectors, and was wondering what people thought of them? I do not mind some engine vibration, as long as it is not extreme. I mainly want to get a better “feel” for the car, instead of being isolated in rubber.

Let me know what you think and you opinion of the Al sub-frame connectors.

Thanks for your time,
Adam

I have purchased and installed SHONUTPERFORMANCE aluminum bushings. Cant tell the difference in vibration, but have noticed increased handling. Go for it.

The early SHOs had an interference between the rear of the DIS and the roll damper bracket if the engine was lowered, either on its mounts or the entire subframe. I found this out when I lowered the subframe to replace the subframe bushings. It cost me a DIS omdule as the rear connector was snapped off. If the rubber has separated from the metal on the front mount then the mount has failed and will need to be replaced soon. The reinforcing bolt in the SHO NUT (et. al.) mounts restrict the free motion after the rubber has separated. The rear mount may be worn and allowing the engine to ride lower than designed. Check this one too. If the subframe bolts are properly torqued, the subframe should not be allowed to drop, even if the bushings are worn out. They should be checked though.
