Are there any hoses in the general vicinity of the pump that are likely to leak? Suddenly there is a leak coming from there, but its greater than I remember that normally comes from a leaking seal, maybe a cup or two per minute. Before I order a water pump, do I need to take everyting apart to see whats up? Also, who has the rebuilt pump mentioned in an earlier post? $200 is a lot for a water pump.

There are no rubber hoses from the water pump, only the lower radiator hose to the pump suction. You can see the top clamp on the hose looking under the plastic fender liner so you should be able to tell if the hose is the source of the leak. The outlet passages from the water pump have O-ring seals - one to the block and one to the metal tube that passes to the driver side of the engine through the valley. Chances are that it is the shaft seal, but that is a large amount of leakage to be the shaft seal.

I recommend going with a rebuilt Motorcraft pump that includes the front case half with new seals, bearings and gasket for less than $70 with a lifetime warranty. I have bought them through O'Reilly Auto Parts, but I'm sure a store local to you will carry the A1 Cardone brand or equivalent.

Well I just went out and pulled the left front tire and wheel well cover off to inspect my coolant leak. At first I thought it was the pump. Now it looks like I have a pin hole leak in the lower hose that is blowing between the crank pully and the water pump. I can not believe that this hose is a dealer item only. Looks like the SHO is down for a few days until I can get a replacment. I just hope this fixes my leaks. .........

Scott, thanks for the tip. I called around and NAPA has the Cardone rebuilts for ~$42. Quite a savings; I hope this is the one you're talking about. I don't mind saving money ;-) but I'd rather not have to go in there again to make a warranty claim. Looking carefully in behind the pulley there is evidence of long time leakage.

Holy crap can you give me that part number is that for a 3.0 or 3.2 rebuilt water pump? Does that have the lifetime warranty? I would love to see my Napa give me that price on a waterpump...

The unit is reman. by Cardone; warranty is one year. PN 57-1373; also Gates belts (all 3) are reasonably priced and in stock. For a 3.0; is the 3.2 different?

Yes, the A1 Cardone rebuilts from O'Reilly Auto Parts came with a lifetime warranty. I bet that NAPA also provides a warranty with their A1 Cardone pumps too.

Just talked to my NAPA guy; he says he's sure the Cardone rebuilds come from the same facility. Its likely that some parts stores (such as O'Reilly?) add a significant premium akin to an insurance premium to extend the warranty. So, you pays your money and takes your chances.

Umm, the napa rebuild I got is liftime for 42 bucks... Anyways, I have had leakage from the upper crossover tube, the O ring that seals the tube to the waterpump often deteriorates.
