Ok so i know there are many different takes on exaust and intake mods. I have done quite a bit of reading on v8sho.com there is lots threads on there on options. i know id like to run a k&n air filter. but the question is to go with a cone filter or stick with the stock air box k&n filter. And also opinons on saxphone options..

second id like to remove the third cat and resonater. Eventualy aftermarket mufflers. My question is what is the best way to remove the cat and resonater simply and cheap. Id like to do it to where i could replace the cat if nessacary but if thats not possible thats ok. any sugguestions or help would be great.

For the intake, removing the sax is a great mod. You can drop in a K&N replacement filter and throw the paper one out. Some people have drilled holes in the air box to get more air in. Putting a cone in the engine bay is only going to suck in hot air into your intake. If you do decide to go with the cone air filter make sure it is in the fender.

As far as the exhaust, FPS in Georgia sell the third cat delete pipe. You could just cut out the third cat and resonator and put a straight pipe in there. Any exhaust shop can do that for you for a respectable price.

With the mods that you are planning on doing, I would get a tune to get the most out of the mods.

Good luck.

Ok great. I will contact Doug lewis and see what I can get the pipe for...and also check some local shops. As far as mufflers go. It seems like the most widly used and liked are the flowmasters and borla. I'm thinking borla. I want something that growls at idle and lower speeds with maybe a little bark. Honestly the sound that comes out of any newer ford v8 is awsome id love to have that sound. I'm open to suggestion but anyone have any good audio clips of a similar set up of what I'm wanting. And as far as tunes go. Does Doug still sell the tuners. If not were is the best place to get one.

The sound that you can get out of the V8 SHOs is amazing. You will have to play around with the setup till you are happy with the sound.

Doug does sell the tuners. I believe Kirk at Northeast SHO also sells them.

Ok thanks...as far as mods for the saxaphone what is the best way to modify it. The one that's seems best to me is to use an elboy joint and some 3 inch tube. Just like the one method on v8sho.com. anybody have any others ways that they did.

ok. I'm going to do this in three steps as I'm Broke right now. But I'm probly going to attempt to remove saxaphone tomarrow. K&n drop in air filter to follow and then remove the third cat hopefully sooner than later. Would love to be able to unleash more power and sound out of this car.

How much you asking. I'm low on cash right now so I was thinking of just putting a k&n in and removing sax. But I'm still open.

Porterizing is an inexpensive alternative for sure. You could also "gut" the third cat to free up the exhaust a bit.

I do plan on removing sax this week. And ill drop in a k&n as soon as I find some work. And I've checked with doug lewis he said the pipe was between 120 and 150 if I remember right and the tuners were 500. Seeing as how I don't have that kind of money. I can get pipe ofline for less the thirty bucks.and I'm sure some local shops have some as well. I think that would work fine but as for tune which id really like I'm going to have to find another route as I won't be able to get that kind of money any time soon.

I removed the saxophone to i cut it right above the resonater part and painted the pipe black as it was faded. so under hood looks stock. i thought it turned out nice. it does feel like the car is getting a bit more air i cant wait to get a kn filter to see if that improves it more

You need to remove the small tube running into the fender and replace it with a 3" PVC elbow.

Intake mods on these cars are a complete waste of time, after the PVC "Porterized" mod. I had a K&N for a while and went back to a Napa Gold paper filter.

Do you really think that replacing that little amount of pipe from 2.5 inch to three inch would make a differencethe stock pipe where i cut it is only about four inches out the fender about right where it curves down

I was just wanting to note its been a couple days since I removed the sax and have the stock pipe sticking out about four inches. And I have noticed better running car all around. The seems to get better mpg and car also runs smoother still running orielly brand air filter. Am I getting simular results as other people. also does anyone have sound clips of their sho with sax removed and third cat with stock mufflers was curios about sound before I embark on the third cat delete. I've been checking on pipe and I think its a matter of what it will cost for labor

I "porterized" mine years ago, I guess there was a slight, if any, performance gain. I don't really care about that, all I know is that the sound after the mod is awesome. I also gutted my 3rd cat and I can actually feel a little less backpressure and a little louder sound also.

These are inexpensive mods to get air in and get air out.

I do think mine seems a bit louder with just the sax removed. Can notice a bit more intake noise. I can't wait to delete third cat I'm envious for a louder growl. I just want people to know that's its a v8 while still being pleasent and not to expensive.

Yes, I do believe there is a difference. The factory pipe is like 1 3/4" where it gets necked down, the PVC is 3" all the way. Sound is ok too I guess.

Also wire open your IMRC butterflies, and unplug the harness.

Ok thanks. I didn't realy inspect the pipe that much. I will probly switch to three inch pipe soon but I am out of money till I get a job so I wanted to do it cheap for now. I have the secondaries wired open now. But just curious what does unpluging the box do?

Keeps from throwing a code.
Dude if you want to save some money, instead of deleting the 3rd cat with a pipe, (that you have to buy), just "gut" it. It is very easy to do. Unbolt the cat from the fex pipe and drop it down off of the hangers. Get a spade type drill bit used for boring into wood and drill it out. Remove the chunks with a shop-vac or by hand. Bolt everything back up, crank her up, blow out the dust and enjoy.

When I "porterized" my intake, it cost about $12.00. All you need is a 90 degree "street elbow" 3 inches in diameter and a 3 inch rubber coupler.
