While trying to drill out a broken valve cover bolt from the hole, the drill bit broke. When it broke, the drill slipped, grabbed the rag I had stuiffed in the oil return hole and pulled it out before I could stop it. Long story short, I can't find the small piece of the broken bit anywhere.

If it happened to fall into the hole, and I put it back together and try to start it, I assume the piece would hit something further down in the engine and probably ruin it.

Please let me know if that is a correct assumption.

I had been stopping every little bit and using a magnet to remove the small shavings. I guess they would be picked up by the oil filter anyway, but the fewer left in the better.

The hole is now also buggered up a little bit, which I don't guess would be a big deal if I could get the rest of the bolt out. I could use a brass insert or something of that nature to get the new bolt to hold.

Anyway, I am not equipped to pull the engine and have never removed a head on anything except an old chevy pickup, so I am not real sure where to go from here.

Any advice and/or opinions will be greatly appreciated.

I am not sure if it fell in the hole at all, but since I can't find it anywhere else, I can only assume the worst. It is the big hole on the corner of the engine just above the bolt hole, closest to the firewall. I believe it is the oil return hole. It is full of oil. I have run a magnet down as far as I could, but did not pick up anything, and could not see anything down in the hole.
