Ok...a mechanic that is not intimately familiar with SHO's told me that there are two modules at the top of my engine and that one was damaged due to excessive movement of my rear motor mounts. He also said that whenever something touches the 2nd one, the engine shuts down, which would explain the severe spasming my engine was doing when I accelerated. He doesn't not know the exact name of the modules, but said he thought they had to do with ignition control. Do you know what "modules" these are, and where are the least expensive replacements? thanks....

I've yet to hear this one before, but the only module that could be damaged I can think of is the DIS unit. Other than that...snap pictures of give us a better description.

Yes, this can happen. It can and whill shut down the engine.

When either the rear mount or the sub-frame bushing fails, it can cause the rear of the engine to drop. This then causes the rear connector on the DIS module to contact the strut dampener housing adjacent to the passenger side strut tower. When the connector is in contact with the dampener, it can crack the connector, damage the wiring, or even break the DIS (ignition) module itself.

First, inspect the subframe mounting to be sure the subrame has not dropped. If it has, take it to Ford for recall repair. There have been reports of Ford even replacing a damaged DIS module when the SFB mounting hardware has failed.

If the SFB is okay, test the motor mounts themself. Replace as needed.

Best bet for a DIS module is from someone who is parting out a car. The 89's module is unique by part number from the later years and, while a later module may work... See http://shoforum.com/showthread.php?t=13355&highlight=dis+module+part+number
