My 93 MTX just lately started misfiring/hesitating around 2-3k RPMs. I checked the front 3 plugs and found oil in #5 (the middle one) I won't have access to a garage until this weekend, so I haven't checked the back 3 plugs for oil yet. I cleaned out all the oil I could out of #5, but it's still misfiring. I'm a little low on money at the moment, so I'm looking for the cheapest solution to this. I'm sure it's too late to get the gasket set by this weekend, but should I go ahead and get new plugs/wires?? Any help/advice will be appreciated. Also, on fordpartsnetwork.com, they have the plug wires for $100 WR-4033 3.0L wire set $ 99.99 Did prices go up?? Is there anywhere else I could get them for cheaper, or just get a less expensive set??

It might not be leaking oil causing the misfire. You have to give us more detail on the symptons to be sure. Were there any arc tracings on spark plugs?

OK, went out and ran the codes, and KOEO, I got 111 (system OK), and in the stored codes I got 172(Oxygen sensor) and 542(Fuel Pump Open). For KOER, I got 116(Engine coolant out of range, possibly because car was still cold??) I also received another 172, and a 225(Knock Sensor not tested) I ran the cylinder balance test, and got 2 - 3 - 2 - 3. Does that mean that my #2 AND #3 cylinders are out of balance?? Should I be concerned, or would it just be my oxygen sensor causing my misfiring?? Sorry guys, I'm kinda new to the SHO game. Thanks for any help.

I just checked FPN's site and yup, it looks like the price on the WR-4033 wires has indeed gone up.

Definitely check the rest of the plug wells and clean out the oil. That alone may solve the problem you're having. If you're budget is tight and your plugs are due for replacement, I'd go ahead and replace them (with the Motorcraft AGSP32PP, naturally), and then buy the wires when your budget will support it. Sure, you can save $25-$30 going with aftermarket wires, but the genuine Ford wires have been proven over and over again to work every single time.

Yup at $100 the WR-4033 wire set from FPN has definately gone up in price. IPT is showing the Vitek wires on their site for $105 http://www.iptech.tv/catalog/89-95_plug_wires_mtx_774476.htm
I don't think anybody has had bad luck with the Vitek wires. If anybody has please come forward. In general most of the aftermarket wires should be avoided. There are a few exceptions. The Viteks and the Taylors come to mind.
