The problem kept getting worse and worse, so I decided today I would have to fix the bolt that broke on my intake. First step was to take the manifold off again. Then came the bolt.

It was just sticking out of the top of the port:

An easy out worked just fine after a little drilling:

And we threw it all back together, and she ran just as she did before the bolt problem!

Plenty of power from that upper 60k, too! :D

Thanks to everyone for your help with this matter, and to Scot for your 60k help!

Glad you got it fixed man! I figured that it was probably a vacuum leak as well. Good luck and keep us posted.

Yeah, it felt a lot more punchy after taking care of this. Of course then my SHO got a big vacuum leak, I forgot the one hose that's in the lower left corner (by the "S")! I wondered what the rushing sound was... thumbs_u

Glad to see you finally fixed the problem (caused my me! ). So is that what you would call an E-Z Out in the 3rd pic? I've never seen one used before, but I think my pops has a few tucked away in this tool box somewhere. Did the bolt come out easily?

Yes, that is an EZ Out type tool. You can see that the high pitched threads are oriented in the opposite direction of a normal screw so that turing it counterclockwise will cause it to drive into the drilled hole and turn the broken screw out of the hole.

rendyx, you can get a better spray pattern from your fuel injectors if they are oriented like the injector on the number two cylinder. There are two pin holes in the tip of each injector that are oriented so that they squirt directly into the two intake port streams if the electrical connector is positioned at approximately 45 degrees from the fuel rails like the connector on the number two cylinder in the third picture. You can just push the connector with your finger without any disassembly.

Once again, I am amazed at the oxidation from the harsh environmental conditions in the Northeast part of the country. I have never seen oxidation of that severity on the fuel rails, intake manifold, hose clamp bolts or secondary butterfly vacuum actuators. No wonder you poor guys have to torch off bolts.

After reading how your fixed your problem Pat (I had something very similar) I went and checked my intake bolts as I was re-taking it off to loof for crap (towel) that I forgot to take out of one of the runner, which I though also might be the problem, I noticed that one of the bolts on the intake was not fully tightened down. So after I found nothing in the runners, I put it back together and made sure all bolts were tight, and it runs fine now. But somehow one of the belts got loosened and screeches. Don't you just love how a 2 hour project turns into a 2 day nightmare?

Very! Drilling it evenly was the hardest part, bu the bolt came right out.

Scott, I'll have to try your suggestion with the injectors. Sounds like a nice little improvement without much work/money!

It's funny, today I noticed the idle is still a little rough, probably a lot like it was before the upper 60k no that I think of it. I'll have to try the injector thing. I've also heard that dry gas, or an overly high octane (I run 93, maybe 91 at Quik Fill?) would cause missing (if that's even it).

Fortunately, the main problem seems to be solved!
