Maybe your right, but you probably could have been a little less of a **** about it. No one likes to hear someone call their project "retarted" after putting so many hours of labor into it. By all means express your concerns of safety, but theres no need for put downs.

Why should I sugar coat it? Also if you quote me spell it right.

I don't see why everyone's being so critical of his work. by God, if you think you can do better, knock yourselves out. In the meantime, he's having fun, he's trying something different, and if it don't work, feel free to point and say "I told you so". Until then, unless you have something constructive to say, STFU.

Personally, I'd love to see the thing moving. Perhaps from a safe distance, but that's beside the point. The boy's got a vision, and it's awesome to see such vision come to life. At least he's got the balls to try, unlike many others on here who just speculate. Yes, I include myself in that pile of people, with my twin-turbo, slushbox SHO powered Ranger.

Carry on, Dr. Frankendude. Make it happen and show all these naysayers how to properly insert a nike into their cakehole.

I am not going to keep my mouth shut, my friend lost his arms due to improper safety protocol. I don't ever want to see or hear of anything else like that. I'm not acting like this to be a dick I am genuinely worried for his safety. I believe if he takes this over 30 mph he could die or worse **** some innocent person.

Without actually examining what he's doing first hand, you can't make assumptions based on photography, no matter how good you think you may be.

Hey Guys,

I haven't posted for a while, so I thought I would post some new pics, and an update on what's left...

I posted all the pics here to save shoforum.com on bandwidth: http://www.joeynovak.com/wiki/index.php/SHOTruck

Since last posting, I finished the brakes, basic electrical (it will start), steering, fuel tank, fuel lines, fuel pump, started extending cab, and coolant lines. Only things left now are: Throttle Linkage, Shift Linkage, Finish Extending Cab, Exhaust, Front Firewall between radiator and gas tank, and Sensor Electrical (temp sensor to dash, oil pressure, etc...). I have parts and plans for everything but the gas pedal linkage and firewall and I have a good idea what I am going to do, just haven't committed yet.

Later,

Joey

Is it just me or do I not see ANYWHERE in his original post where he plans on taking this to the road?

While I encourage those of you whom may legitimately be concerned for his safety, why has it not been considered that this is may just be a goof project to have some winter fun with?

I seriously doubt that there were ever any intentions of making it road-worthy, and if in fact there were, I'd like to think the state would put your collective concerns to rest at inspection.

Oh, and that flat stock I used for the steering, is 1/4" thick, and is attached to the car in three different places. It isn't the material that determines how strong it is, it is how the material is used. You could tow the car (and I am not being facetious...) by the bracket that holds the steering. AND!!! The power steering in the car still works (notice the VAPS computer mounted to the inside of the firewall), so, as long as the power steering continues to function, that bar shouldn't see very much force anyways. But it is built so that in the event I experience snap over steer, or other mid / rear engine phenomenon, the steering will maintain secure and straight.

When safety is concerned I think pointing out deficiencies is completely legitimate, especially if it's going to be driven on the road where other people could also be endangered.

If nobody ever speaks up when somebody goes to take a deathtrap on the road and somebody gets hurt or killed, that's irresponsible in my opinion. If somebody you care about got hurt by somebody doing something reckless and there was a whole crowd of folks standing around who could've spoken up to prevent it, would you feel good that they put somebody's feelings before your loved one's safety?

I know how I answer that question.

Without actually examining what he's doing first hand, you can't make assumptions based on photography, no matter how good you think you may be.

That's true, and pointing things out to get clarification should be a good thing.

Is it just me or do I not see ANYWHERE in his original post where he plans on taking this to the road?

Nor has there been any indication that it's not going to end up there.

While I encourage those of you whom may legitimately be concerned for his safety, why has it not been considered that this is may just be a goof project to have some winter fun with?

I hope that's the case, and he can clear it up quickly by saying so.

I seriously doubt that there were ever any intentions of making it road-worthy, and if in fact there were, I'd like to think the state would put your collective concerns to rest at inspection.

If the truck was already registered there's nothing to stop him (or, in many places, require him) from just putting those tags back on and hitting the road.
