Im thinking of getting one vs the Windstorm. I just think the concept is much more in line physics wise. Anyone have any input?

Could you elaborate a bit on the new style mdesign intake. I'm interested.Yes. But that was an old design. I read it. In all reality, their design looks just like an air raid. Cant argue with that aspect. Nothing against livernois at all. Air intakes arent their bread and butter. Mdesign solely concentrates on intakes and nothing else

The physics of the design makes much more sense than anything else out there. Its a straight shot from air scoop which attaches to radiator wall. So to speak. Then an enclosed carbon fiber housing with 3m heatshield to protect against heat soak. Larger cone style filter. Lots of positive SHO reviews from what ive seenCould you elaborate a bit on the new style mdesign intake. I'm interested.
So yer saying intakes are a waste of money?After owning a couple of different cars I have done intakes on, and looking at the "physics" of them, I can tell you that "ram air" is all a bunch of hooey.
Think about it. The amount of air required to feed the engine at full chat is extreme. If you have ever stuck your hand over a intake (or if youre old school enough, a carb) you can feel just how strong the suction is. A engine is, at it's most basic, a air pump. Now counter that with the amount of air the car's speed is pushing thru a realitively small intake hole and you can see that it is not doing much.
The size of the opening at the front of the car would have to be huge to allow any real air pressure to build up. The only way you are going to see any real world gains would be to "ram" enough air into there to actually reduce or eliminate the vacuum inside the inlet. Trying to do this with any sort of realistic inlet, so for example the mdesign inlet that looks to be about 3-4 inches by 6-8 inches, is impossible.
The most important thing about an intake is that it is large enough not eliminate any restriction the factory intake caused, that it's air filter also reduces that restriction, and that it draws fresh air in from outside the car. Being from the show me state, I would have to see in person back to back tests of any of the cold air intakes to believe there was any real world gain between them (more than 3-5 HP).
Edit: Just to be clear, to see any gains you would need to be able to hook up a vacuum gauge on the intake pipe, take a reading at full throttle (which will show alot of vacuum) and then install the intake and do the test again. Your going to need to see significant changes in the vacuum levels to make any real world difference. If you were to attach a box to the front of it measuring say a foot by a foot and then run 100 MPH you might see a significant change.

Gotcha. Imop though, this Medesign setup looks more efficient. All the other Cais look the same. Minus the KNNo, I'm saying ram air in general is nonsense. Any good aftermarket intake should see gains, as it eliminates the factory restrictions etc. But unless one is badly designed they aren't going to produce noticeable gains vs another aftermarket one.
