Is it a CPO? Does it come with maintenance records and a Carfax? Can you get an OASIS report pulled (Ford dealership exclusive) for it? Have all the recalls been performed? Is a copy of the original window sticker available? How much tread remaining on the tires (are they summer or allseason), and when was the battery last replaced?

You can get price approximations for the SHO at Edmunds, KBB, NADA, etc. I would also look at Autotrader, cars.com, sites like that to see real-world price offerings.

pretty much done the research ...
I found a few 2015's for the price of this 2013 but they have 30000 miles and are 500miles away.. this is CPO.. I am more looking for problems to lookout for. weird noises common broken things... there is a lot of stuff to these cars.. from buttons/ switches that break..... to common bad cup holders.... to more expensive stuff..

I will have them pull service records and run recall check...... how well do these Turbos hold up?

I dumped my 2011 F350 diesel because it started eating money at 40000 miles... always been a ford guy but... cautious now

very clean carfax oil changes and 1 owner , personal lease, sunrise florida car..... seems like a winner.... just gotta try and make the deal on it....

have a 2012 Armada Platinum I want to trade ... it should be worth more than the Taurus, so no tax... and just doc fee and transfer tags..... add back my payoff and get a new payment gotta get a moon shot on the armada and low ball the Taurus (or put some money down too) lol

I have been searching all night and I see some complaints but pretty much the same complaint folks have with all cars.... trim, some stalling issues, vibrations, usually find 1 report of a fire etc. etc.

That makes sense.....I get it now. First thing when you get it home is wash, claybar, polish and wax. I am not the financial genius on the purchase price but obviously others and your conscience can be your guide. Google Claybar and the Mayan inserts may take some special care for cleaning consult owners manual.

I already use ADAMS polishes with a FLEX polisher and claybar.. you should see my Black 2010 Crown Vic Police interceptor it glows. the wifes 2015 Yellow Mustang GT too

I want to lower my payment.... but don't have to .... may get more of a warranty than CPO" just in case" pretty sure I can make the deal (but you never know)

It is the last Saturday of the Month in a typically slow car sales month....

Not a lot of miles so that is a good start. Sounds like you got the polish, waxes and ClayBar's covered and know your way around a buffer. Good luck on the financials and keep us updated.....remember a purchase doesn't count without photos.

Adams has a nice product line for sure!

Since it's a CPO, you have that 1 year cushion (if they haven't changed the policy) to figure things out. If the SHO drives well at all levels of throttle input, you'll probably be OK. The OEM brakes are pretty stout on the 13+, so stopping power should be pretty good. But the techs may have resurfaced the rotors/pads, so be a bit cautious on that score.

Might have an issue with a valve cover leak in cylinder 3 (driverside, firewall), or excessive precip in the PCV system (noticeable in the intake tubing/intercooler), or more rarely turbo oil feed line leaks. If temps get low where you are, might see that puff of "smoke" on startup from condensation, but that should be it. Should be NO smoke when you lift from heavy throttle.

As the reports of incidents continue to trickle in, I wouldn't be surprised if you had 1 or more hoses left loose by techs after a service visit. They can then work themselves completely off and effectively leave you without turbo power.

The rear turbo is a PITA to change out, you have to drop the subframe in that corner. Use quality & correct weight oil, quality oil filter to cut down on PCV and lubrication issues. At the very minimum, Motorcraft 5W30 + FL500s combo.

Batteries do get eaten for lunch, don't underestimate the importance, that's why I mentioned that. Is the mileage primarily shortdistance driving, was it weekender-type mileage, ...? Short trips will not charge the battery adequately, and you need to use a digital load tester to see if the CCA's still meet specs.

Check to see if there's any signs of rubbing on the paint in the trunklid area (when it's closed). Seems the bump stops can be inadequate to support the weight of the trunklid and it can contact the paint underneath.

The engine air and cabin air filters are likely to be filthy, so plan on changing those. Climate control should work properly, with heat and a/c coming on promptly. Check that you can direct the air as desired: floor/vent/defrost etc. No clicking from the dash either.

Does it have remote start? Read up on how it's supposed to work (online owner's guide) and test it out. Make sure you get 2 original keys (with different entries in the PATS system) from the dealer. That's a minimum to add keys yourself later.

SHO Performance Package includes performance friction
brake pads, sport-calibrated steering, AdvanceTrac® electronic
stability control “Sport Mode” setting, 3.16:1 final drive ratio,
Alcantara® suede-trimmed steering wheel, 20" machined and
painted aluminum wheels with P245/45R20 Performance
Summer Tire Compound and tire sealant/inflation kit (n/a with
adaptive cruise control)

Note that the PP option deletes the spare, but you can fit a "deflated" fullsize spare in that space if you like.

And there is the possibility that you are getting a tuned car, so you will have to change out spark plugs very soon. Plus if the PCM calibration gets updated, it may not drive/shift like before because it will be "stock" again.

WOW all really good info.... Thanks...

probably won't tune but who knows... whats that cost? can plugs be done myself or too difficult to reach??

this will all depend on what kind of month dealer is having , as I am a little upside down in my Armada and he may not budge on price

I like the CPO coverage but might want some longer full coverage

still a little concerned that I see some 2015's for the same money as this 2013... but other 2015's around $31000- $32000

figure worst case its a year newer and a lot less miles than the Armada, and I am just not into the Armada, I miss having that FORD feel( if that makes sense)

this will be my 13th ford, I think... so if I can keep payment the same as it is now, I am good. If I can do better GREAT!

but Clean lowmiles service record Carfax and it being a florida car I don't think I can go wrong on this one

I meant the previous owner might have tuned it, so when you test it, it will be the performance of a tuned car. If ever it happens that down the road, the dealership updates the PCM calibration, that tune would go away, and you would be back to "stock" performance. Just to prepare you for that possibility.

If you were to put on a tune, it could cost from $500-$700, depending on the tuner you choose. Being patient pays, because you can get the device secondhand, then just pay for the tune from the tuner. Sometimes there will be specials that make the pricing even more attractive.

Spark plugs are fairly easy. The cylinder 3 plug is the "hardest", likely needing a couple of hoses moved out of the way to get to. Sometimes the coil plug boots are stubborn and come off or get torn. So good to have a replacement set of boots on hand when doing the spark plugs. With any luck, you are looking at a stock SHO, so you would have time before the changeout needs to happen.

If a car is CPO, you can definitely get Ford ESP. Look online for best pricing before you negotiate locally. Flood Ford, Lombards, etc are Ford dealerships that sell ESP plans online. I believe you can get coverage out to 125K if you wanted.

Mine has that from the previous owner and I did some playing. I came to the conclusion it's from people slamming the trunk lid down to close it. It's always been a pet peeve of mine when people slam doors/hoods/trunks. I always like to lightly close them just enough so they latch. If you gently close the trunk, it doesn't compress the bump stops enough to contact the bumper cover (at least on my SHO).

Just trying to point out that there might be marks but if you close it gently it shouldn't make it worse. If there are marks and you're buying the car, I would throw into the deal that they need to fix the marks before you take possession of the vehicle.

Good points and +2 on the air filters. Especially Cabin air filter. It is not overly difficult to replace and I would strongly recommend doubling what the owners manual says at very minimum inspect. Manual says replace at 20K I would recommend at very minimum inspect at 10K. NOTE They are not at least as of mid 2015 available at local retailers, A/Z Advance. Wal-Mart etc.... Dealers may be hit or miss regarding in stock. Best Deal I have found is Amazon Prime same day shipping or another popular one is Rock Auto.com I personally prefer the FRAM Fresh Breeze CF-11176 coated with Baking Soda for odor absorption. I apply a liberal coating of Febreeze before installation and run A/C on MAX for about 3-5 minutes to get some of the Febreeze circulated through the cabin. My theory is if I can't bring the Taurus to Hawaii then I will bring Hawaii to the Taurus. CAF is actually fairly easy to get to. Remove contents of Glove Compartment open there is two little blocks on the outside. Basically dampening blocks to help keep the door from totally opening. Inboard side there is a actuating rod, again a dampening rod to help door open smoothly. There is a tab on the door side, just release that tab. VERY CAREFULLY......keep the actuating rod intact trust me it is not easy to put back together. Press the retaining blocks in and remove compartment from lower hinges and set aside. Looking Forward there is two tabs on the lower portion of the filter access panel. Remove the tabs and set panel aside. Lightly press the center of the filter with one hand and grab the outside of the filter with the other hand to slide out of the filter housing. Make a note of the filter, the direction of Air Flow is marked you want the flow arrow facing down. So Outside Air from the top down to filter then to the blower fan. Insert new filter, reinstall access panel and compartment in reverse order.

cha-ching!! I knew I was gonna get what I wanted and they were dead for a Saturday too... they came way up on trade... down on price and I told them I wanted 3.9% so my trade ended up being worth more than the SHO... so no TAX.... after I got best deal with a little back and forth and texting the wife for "permission" I then dropped $2500 in downpayment.. then in finance he said $3900 for 4yr up to 100000miles premiumcare.. but because of CPO vehicle, its only $1295, so I did that too and still have a lower payment... tires are like new, battery replaced, they had to replace the CATS and some other small things to CPO the car.. will try and upload pics
