I there a way by markings, measurement, or whatever to verify the junkyard is giving me the correct knuckles for a '96 brake upgrade? I know to check for the ABS sensor, but beyond that....

I'm asking because the junkyards around here pull all the stuff and warehouse it; you can't see the car it comes off of.

Anyone?

How about caliper bolt spacing? Is that different between '94 and earlier knuckles?

I found a pair of knuckles at a JY that are ABS and claimed to be off of a '94 Taurus. I just need to verify they are right before I go to the trouble of putting new spindle bearings in it.

Just look for the different calipers. I don't have pictures of the earlier knuckles but they don't have such huge eyes for the caliper. Also, the earlier knuckles don't use caliper brackets, the caliper bolt directly to the knuckle.

The earlier knuckles have large protrusions for the brake pads on the old style calipers to ride against, and small threaded holes for the caliper sliders. The newer knuckles have no such large horizontal protrusions, and large non threaded holes for the new style caliper bracket bolts to go through.

As you can see in the pic above, the 94/95 knuckles just have those 2 little tabs on which to bolt the caliper. The earlier knuckles have HUGE ears that hold the pads. Those huge ears are cast into the part.
