maf problem??

When my maf is plugged in it bucks, stalls and basicacally runs terrible. The check engine light comes on then goes off. It will not idle until it is warmed up. If i unplug it it actuaaly drives better without any problems. I replaced the black module with two other modules with the same number. Same problem. Someone told me to replace the housing but that doesn't make sense to me. Also was told maybe the plug was shorting out. Any suggestions?

If you have had issues with multiple units, there is probably a problem in the wiring.

One last thing to try is to clean the MAFs. Use CRC MAF Cleaner as directed on the can. Even though the elements might look clean they can have microscopic (conductive) debris on them. Particularly true if the MAFs were ever in cars that had K&N oil charged filters. The oil can get on the element and skew the readings from the sensor.

Your answer will be found by checking the codes. The check engine light is there for a reason If you don't know how to retrieve the codes, do a search on the forum. Disconnecting the MAF forces the eec into limp mode and the engine will run on a pre-programmed set of parameters.
