Lowering?

Alright I'm getting/got(Just waiting for my two weeks to be up) a new job and I am going to get parts at cost Plus 10%. I am seriously thinking about lowering it and putting on 17's. MAYBE keep my CHROME slicers on,haven't decided yet. Well what I'm trying to ask is how far should I lower it,1/2in 3/4in?, and is one brand better then the other? ANY feedback would be GREATLY appreciated.

If you want to go real low, go Tokico/Intrax with a coil cut. I personally like the height and feel of my Koni/Eibach setup.
