What type of hose should I use to replace the low pressure PS lines? Is heater hose sufficient? I want this to last more than a few years. Thanks.

Just go to the auto parts store and tell them what size (internal diameter) power steering hose you need. It is a bulk item and costs around $1 per foot.

I bought some at AutoZone a while back, but and decent parts store will have it.

Steve,

Does this apply to both low and high lines? Do you know what the ID is off the top of your head? I've never cut into one before to find out.

Low pressure hose is 3/8" hose. I would NOT use heater hose for low pressure P/S hose. The high pressure line Autozone sells as a preformed item that was fairly cheap and good quality. It also includes the little teflon seals needed to be replaced with the line. Good luck. I replaced ALL the power steering lines besides the line from the resivior to the pump (couldn't find a hose that would form to that size and shape) because they were ALL Rock hard and leaking at all the joints. Good luck!

Biz,

The "hard" and pressure lines are specific to the Taurus. I used one made by Gates that I had ordered from Rockauto when I replaced the return line. The rest of it was 3/8 Bulk PS hose.
