I need you guys assistance.

I just replaced my CPS for the second time since I've owned the car, '95 ATX.

Thought all was good with the world and then I noticed that the engine would idle so low when making a turn that it would basically die. I would see the oil pressure light flash and feel the steering stiffen up. However, when I accelerated again all would be back to normal. I have also had it idle so low that it would not stay running w/o my holding the brake and applying the accelerator at a traffic light.

This does not happen all the time. I suspect the IAC (or IAB whichever you know it as) but it seems coincidental that it started failing on me right after replacing the CPS. I know stranger things have happened and that the car is 16 yo now.

Does taking the IAC off and cleaning it make sense or should I just get a new one and replace it outright. This will be the third Ford that I've had with IAC problems.

Also, can anyone help me identify the gold colored thing next to what I believe is the fuel pressure regulator?

It appears to be leaking fuel and may be the primary source of the raw fuel under the hood, in the cockpit and around the car itself.

First, after you replaced the crank sensor, did you do the idle reset procedure? If not, you need to do that. That is required for the pcm to "learn" how to control the idle. If you don't do it, you might take over a month for the pcm to adapt enough to make it idle right.

Only after doing the idle reset would I consider that the iac might be sticky, but generally a sticky iac results in high idle and idle surge, rather than low idle.

No, didn't follow the entire procedure of turning on all accessories and such but I did start it and let it idle in the driveway for several minutes. I've driven it for over 50 miles since the replacement also.

I'll disconnect the neg batt lead and KAM terminal tomorrow and go through the reset procedure posted in the "How To" section here.

Thanks for the response.

Any thoughts on the vacuum thingy in the picture; the one w/o the hose attached?

Also, I've been running with the canister purge solenoid bypassed (removed) for several months now. Any issues with that other than the code that is returned by KOEO test?

running with the purge solenoid bypassed (purging all the time) is fine, no issues - but as you noted the pcm will complain of not sensing the solenoid.

the gold canister on the fuel rail is just the fitting to connect the incoming fuel line to the fuel rail. of course, you need to fix that fuel leak before you torch your engine.

Thanks Ruby.
There is nothing connected to the gold looking thingee. What is it called so that I can get one to replace it?
