so i wanna drop some more weight off my 95. the goal is 3100ish lbs with a "full" interior. now, i've already removed as much sound deadening as i could, along with the carpet padding. the passenger's airbag is gone, but the cover's still there. my next plan is to remove all the bracing in the hood and trunk lid, along with losing the latches and cables with locking pins in their place. what else can come out without losing basic creature comforts?

Just FYI, I took ALL the braces off a stock gen2 hood, it still had a significant amount of weight to it, much more so than a plus hood or carbon fiber hood. You'll only lose 10 or 15 lbs with that. And after I took it all off the front of the hood and sides would kink if you picked it up wrong. Beware.

Take out the power seat rails and replace them with manual ones.

That.

Those rails are really heavy.

Got my manuals off a 96 slo for dirt cheap.

When you say seat rails, you're just talking about the fore and aft adjustment, right? I might do this just so I can move the seats faster. Waiting for them to get from one end to the other is like watching grass grow.

rear speakers
gone

foglights
not yet gone, considering converting to brake cooling ducts

trunk carpet
only thing left is the fuzzy part

spare tire
been gone for years

convert to single exhaust.
Done and done.

as for the manual seat rails, the driver's side is the only one that has power seat. The passenger's is manual already. I'd be interested if i could get rid of the pump for just the lumbar, as I don't use it, but I do use the bolsters. Also got rid of the stock amp, amp bracket, brackets for the center console (it's a pull-out now), knee impact pad under the steering wheel, spoiler's gone...that's about all I can think of off the top of my head. I've been kicking around the idea of bypassing the ABS since I've got both front sensors out anyway, but I don't know if I wanna run all that line.

Yes , but it has a price. You loose the up-down , tilt front - back (all what the joystick button does)

My rails were kinda rusty and was slow as **** , I just hate to wait for it. Specially when the wife is short and im tall.

I think 3100 with a full interior is not possible. I have the following items removed,

-rear seat
-trunk carpet
-spare tire
-ac
-some of the rear interior panels
-fog lights and brackets
-single exhaust

I also i have a carbon fiber hood and trunk. With those things done my car weighed in the 3240. So to loose another 100 lbs your going to have to get rid of some the interior. Either that or make the rear windows fixed lexan and cut up some of the rear door sheet metal, and get rid of the stock front seats completely in favor of some light weight racing ones but both of those things are not going be low budget.

It really depends on how crazy you really want to go to get rid of weight. You can remove a surprising amount of weight a little bit at a time.

Things people have already covered:
-AC System - compressor, condenser, hoses, etc. Make some sort of aluminum block to reinforce where the compressor used to sit.
-Stereo removal (amps, subwoofer box, rear speakers)
-Exhaust
-Seat tracks
-Spare tire/jack
-Window motors / convert to roll up windows.

Odds / ends:
-Remove unnecessary wiring and computers. You don't need the airbag module or any of it's wiring if you don't have the airbags. You don't need any of the fog light wiring if you don't have the lights.....Do you really need the interior light wiring in the doors or all the door light sensors? How about all the keyless entry wiring and it's computer in the trunk?
-Remove brackets and use zip-ties / wire looms in their place. The bracket holding the wires behind the intake, CCRM bracket, etc..
-Gas struts for the hood.

More exotic (and unsafe) things you can think about:
-Bumper supports front and rear
-Metal re-enforcement crash bars in doors
-Spare tire well cut out, thin steel welded in place

Expensive but can cut 100lbs:
-CF hood / trunk
-Smaller and lighter wheel / tire combo.

Get a hole saw and drill a thousand 2 inch holes in the bumper supports. Replace bumper covers.

In an 89 it would be. Or damn close. I cant rememeber my exact weight but I know it was 33xx. This is with dual power seats, sc'er stuff, 18's, half a tank . Losing 200lbs wouldn't be a full interior but u could still have all the creature comforts. Lose the dual exhuast, 2 racing seats, carpet liner, and some other things

OP asking about a 95 but im not sure of the weight difference, but my point was that the weight i was at was with carbon fiber parts and still not really close to 3100 and the op is on a budget so cf parts are out the window, so i think most of the interior has to be shot out. I also added at the time i had a single exhaust. If the goal is 3100 dry i then with the things i have done is acheivable.

last time i had mine on the scales, it weighed 3240 with my 245lb rear end, a back seat, a rather large and heavy amp/subwoofer in the trunk, a half a tank of gas, and probably 30lbs of assorted crap in the back seat. it also still had duals on it. since then, i've ditched one of the mufflers, the carpet padding, factory amp and bracket, rear speakers, a/c everything, passenger air bag, rear spoiler, most of the center console brackets, the knee impact panel under the steering wheel along with the brace behind it, and put lighter rims on it.

Just for reference, My car weighed 2840 with a 1/4 tank of Gas in it.

With me in it, It was 3,000 Pounds on the dot. This was verified on two different scales.
