i just bought my sho yesterday (93 atx). it makes a consistant hissing noise, like air hissing. you can hear it from the inside of the car. it also has a really lound banging/clanking noise that sounds pulley/pump related that i'm not sure of. i was wondering if anyone has any clues to what these could be.

I'm afraid you'll have to give us more data on your problems before anyone here can help.

For instance, can you correlate the hissing noise with any other car behavior? Does it only hiss when the climate control is pumping heat (or A/C) or does it seem like its more vacuum-related.

Same for the clunking noise. Try to diagnose systems in use when you hear the clunk.

There are a lot of very experienced, very smart people on this forum. I know I have saved my car more than once, and many thousands of dollars with the judicious use of their advice, and, of course, the search feature.

Let us know what you find.

Sounds like you got a winner - another high-miles, low-maintained example of the venerable yamahammer.

Here's the good news - most of it can be fixed before it breaks.
The bad news? It ain't gonna be cheap.

Check for vacuum leaks around the intake manifold.
Take a long screwdriver, put your ear to the handle end and start sticking the tip on various components (nonmoving ones!) to isolate the source of your rattle/clunk.

Then tell us more.

Does the hissing noise you hear in the passenger compartment go away when you take the car out of park?

As for the banging/clanking noise, where this is a new car to you, you might want to see if you can find another local SHO owner on the forum that can listen to it for you. A "Banging Noise" is rarely a good thing, and is not likely to be accessory related (they usually squeal or grind). Is this noise new, or did you buy the car with the noise already?

ok, the hissing noise is on all the time, no matter what is turned on or off inside the car. the clunking is more of a consistant loud clicking noise on the outside of the car, and you hear it when you turn the wheels. i know it needs tie rods and a front end alignment, but i don't think that would fix this loud clicking noise. i did get the overdrive fixed though, had a broken e-clip. any help would be great.

Where is the hissing noise coming from?? Could be a noisy fuel pump or a cold air intake (if you have one).
