I know this has been covered before, but I have done a search and still havent found much useful info. It's also hard to ask questions on a thread you didnt start.

Anyway:

I have about an inch to an inch and a half of play in my wheel. At first I thought it may have been my driver side front steering knuckle. It needs to be replaced because it does not tightly pinch the ball joint. But I dont think that is the problem anymore. Today, by accident, I locked the steering wheel, and sure enough there was still a lot play in it. I think it has to do with the joints or something in the wheel itself. I checked all those pinch bolts that are known to be loose, one under the boot, and the 2 up towards the wheel, and they're all tight. I also thought it may be the rack or pinion, hopefully not, but could it be that even if the wheel was locked? What can it be?!

Thanks for any replies.

Steering shaft, there is two parts shaft. The smaller one goes into bigger one and there I had free play. I hope it will help.

I still thinks it's the rack...
