Hey guy's, I'm thinking of going with the sct tuning route.. Should i purchase the tuner first and then send away for the tuner i want to use? Or just bye the whole set up from the tuner? I'm looking for a good tune using the stock fuel system.. I would like to run 100 octain or some e blends at the track and 93 for daily.. I see a lot of debating going on with the 3 major tuners.. I would like not to have to purchase a 1600 dollar fuel pump and have to change once a year along with my dp's for N.Y. inspection.. I love the way my Taurus runs but i know there is more in it..
Thanks Scott..

Can you safely datalog? If so, SCT will work for you. Even if you can't, at least you can be set up with a good base tune. But I think the tuners and you will be more comfortable in the long run establishing a baseline and then doing the occasional datalog as needed.

You can purchase the device from any of the tuners you desire to work with. Pricing should be about the same. Of course if you change tuning companies, you have to pay for tunes again, so first order of business as I see it is to get your requirements down pat as best you can. Then you can have a productive conversation with your tuner from the getgo.

Gearhead Auto Octane Tune kinda changes the game a bit. Matt said I didn’t need to Datalog it unless I want too. It has enough adaptives built into it that you get datalogged performance without datalogging for 93 octane tunes.

I have seen this first hand, so I agree with his assessment. Both at the track and the datalogs.

AJPTurbo, BCB, Unleashed etc all have base tunes, but as far as I know, they all want a Datalog to make sure it’s good. You would need to inquire with them.

You should not need to revert back to stock as long as all monitors are set with no CEL. I have passed NY inspection with a 3bar tune.

More air requires more fuel. A CAC that is more efficient will allow denser air into the motor. You then need to add the corect amount of fuel to that air.

I think the best direction is to ask the tuner what the new demands are of the fuel system and if you can run the new CAC to it's full potential without a new high pressure fuel pump or fuel supplement.

I can have the same load no matter what the intercooler is doing.... Load is VE, the actual amount of oxygen entering the engine. The advantage of the intercooler is that now you don't have superheated air entering the engine and you can have more timing and thus make more power on the same amount of fuel. I can hold load to the limit of what the fuel pump can support but you will be making another 40-50 HP at the end of the track all else being equal on a 90 degree day.
