Ive got a 95 MTX.
Love the car to death!

Im looking for that hollow sound. The one that sounds devilish, evil, tormenting, and completely demon (to me that is)

heres what im trying to go for....

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mkRvAu_lgLw
(yes, im aware its no V6, and its basically a ferrari motor.)
But this is the SICKEST, CRUELEST exhaust that i have ever heard. If someone rolled up to me at a stop light and their car sounded like this, i might **** my pants just oggling their car. Id question for years what they had under the hood.

the closest thing i found on youtube of a SHO sounding like this....

thing is... the 2nd SHO video sounded pretty close and pretty good. But not enough. And he said hes got Mustang mufflers on it. Well let me tell you... ive got a set i just pulled off my car because they sounded like complete crap.

it did not give me that hollow sound... :(

but if i could make my car sound like this no one would ever need a hollow sound lol

Mr. Guru,
You're gonna need more than just mufflers to give you nice sound. Exhaust systems are more than just mufflers.
You might notice that the SHO you posted had high-flow Thunderbolt Cats. You could also message the guy that posted the video, the worst he can do is ignore you.

yeah he hasnt responded back...
and i know that the exhaust system is what really makes the car, just wondering if there was a certain type of muffler or brand that gave it more of that sound.

what has anyone done? bought a universal kit and put it on? custom make a 3in cat back? jw

i've got a custom bent 2 1/2" single outlet exhaust with a flowmaster 40 series and no resonator, and i'll be damned if it doesn't sound half bad...i'm likely going to eventually replace the flowie with a stright-thru, but for now it's in my personal top 10 V6 SHO exhausts.

Bob aka Jedhead probably has the best sounding 3.0. Even before the headers, it sounded great. He has the SHOShop equal length y-pipe, SHOShop Catback with 2 mufflers/glasspacks in place of the resonator, and 2 universal Magnaflows out back. Sounds very good.

there was a guy in new york cmichael or something like that.. he was trying to see his exhaust for like $600 or something i really forget the details but he explained how he did it and ill be dammed if it didnt sound like a ferrari or something close.. some described it as a 350z also.

he had a equal length y that he modified by making the y meet back further around the shifter area, heat wrapped the whole deal then ran it into a single exhaust that was borla something had intercooler tips.

the best sounding SHO out there in my mind is ernies... the thing sounds mean as **** and has a beastly v8ish sound.

Catless Y with Magnaflow catback.

Very hollow, just my ****** from the y-pipe to the resonator is botched badly, every time the motor flexes, sounds like I just have open headers, pure crap.

Oh and and absolutely no low end.

Full length flowmaster resonator and gutted flowmaster mufflers are your best bet.

Hey, I think I know what your looking for, my MTX came with a great set up.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JhxdcitBVbs&hd=1&t=1m50s

Is that close to what you looking for? I know it's not a proper exhaust video but it portrays the exhaust note very well..

Don't mind the clicking noise, the TOB is noisy and the tranny needed fluid at the time.

EDIT: I found a proper exhaust clip from the same night, I'll upload it and post it in the morning, I think you'll like it. A good mic makes a huge difference..

Rip that dang dinger out.

The thought never crossed my mind. It has saved me from letting the lights drain my battery a couple times.

Anyways, here's the other video as promised. I believe that the most integral piece for finding that "hollow" sound you describe is a catless y-pipe. I would then put my money on a Magnaflow system with at least an 18" res. I'm not 100% on my exhaust specs but I'll pm the PO.

Honestly I intend on editing together something one day or the other using these but I'm just too lazy now. I love my SHO.

you got constant problems with it? thats what it says on youtube...

man i guess i should feel lucky i never have any problems with my SHOs.. everytime they fire up and run great never a issue.

the only problem they ever gave me was dumb ford stuff like my 92 needs a blend door, it never sees the winter but still those days where the window fog up it would be nice.
or how my power seats/locks dont work... which is a issue ive been hunting for sometime now, i traced it to behind the dash.. sigh..

my 95 had a mouse eat the wires and whenever the battery was hooked up the parking lights were on.

speaking of too bad you didnt have a 94-95 for the issue of leaving your lights on they have the feature where they shut off power to glove box light or interior light or headlight etc after being on for 20 minutes.

Oh. Oh DAMN. I like that alot, when you say "-homemade catless y-pipe" do you have any pictures of it? Also, did you make the Catback, or is that from a company?

i liked the video. at idle i could hear the hollow sound. it was a great set up - but there are some problems with it.

the rasp.. omg the rasp.
http://youtu.be/mkRvAu_lgLw
notice no rasp. just pure evil. rasp is basically a child not grown up into satan yet.

and a custom catless Y pipe seems like a lot of freaking work. i play on getting the magnaflow Y pipe thats been improved compared to stock ones. Ill leave the Y pipe and cats on. Its the cat after that i was concerned about.

REVHARDSHO has the right idea. giving me the best bet with something not out of reason.

What you need is flat-plane crank V8 in your SHO.

Edit: The Maserati doesn't have a flat-plane crank, but it does have a large bore and short stroke, which also helps.

I know rasp, but then again when the secondaries open and you have a aftermarket exhaust, rasp is inevitable. Honestly, the sound isn't that bad when gunning in while in car. It's racy to say the least.

Please note that I did NOT custom make the y-pipe it came with the car, but it is definitely a DIY solution, the rear exhaust dump is 1/2 the length of the front.

The cat back I'm not sure of either but it's flows pretty well from what I can tell. once again, the Taurus sho just isn't set up from a good exhaust, it's hard to persuade any truly decent sounds from this car with a 2-1-2 set up.

Then again, I've driven the car so much maybe I've become accustomed to the sound, but I've loved it since day one so go figure.

Here's is an in car video when I had the 3.0l in, please don't look at anything but the sound is this video, the car needed work at the time of shoot AKA an engine! haha

A magnaflow catless is probably a good bet. Sho source will hook you up (god forbid shipping if your on the east coast like me).
