looking at a taurus sho with a blown 5 speed. (shifter doesnt move much so im assuming its a blown diff). how hard is it to rebuild the 5 speeds? could someone with a higher than average mechanical skill rebuild a 5 speed? I was told it isnt worth it to rebuild but better to buy, but i just got my hands on a differenital. any help would be great.

Rebuilding the transmission was not as difficult as pulling the tranny out the wheel well. I had a lot of help from friends that made it easy. Also Josh's (SHONut performance) quaife install tape was a great help too. The downside is that parts are difficult to come by because most are obsolete and not carried by Ford anymore.

Hey Lee, I can help ya out with that. I am probably going to rebuild Minnesho's tranny and if you like I can walk you thru it or show ya how. Where are you located? I just finished rebuiling a spare I had. This SHO you are looking at with the questionable tranny, is there fluid all over underneath? Are you able to roll the car? Did the owner tell you? not being nosey, just trying to eliminate things. Let me know what you think.:thumb:

If the diff blew, the tranny is scrap. You might be able to use some of the internal parts, but it would be pretty difficult to salvage the case.
