Hi, Im going on a long trip soon and i was wondering if you gurus could help me out on a couple things. First, besides checking all the neccessary fliuds, filters, and pressures, is there anything else i should do before embarking. Next, how does one check the transmission flid level on the MTX. Lastly, if my tranny fluid is low, what should i put in it (i dont believe that ATX and MTX use the same fluids) what brand is best? Thanks alot.

check belts and hoses as well, make sure you have some extra oil and water just in case. to check the fluid level on the tranny pull the plug and the fluid should be up to the plug, and it actually uses the same fluid as the atx.

Ford specifies Type F ATF in the manual transmission. The fill plug is located on the forward face of the case, about 4" from the bottom of the case. I use a 3" long 3/8" socket extension to turn the square-holed plug. You can fill it with a funnel and tube from above or get one of the pumps that fits on a bottle and fill it from below. Either way, you will have to jack up the car and crawl underneath to access the plug.

I just took my car on two 650 mile round trips from Dallas to Hot Springs Village, Arkansas last week to up my total to 263,908 miles as of today. They were great drives. If you take care of the maintenance, the SHO will take care of you.

Thanks... Strange that it uses Auto tranny fluid. That kind of scares me because I believe that the local **** shop put gear oil in it (this was back when i didnt do my own work). And they also said that they put some additive in it to prevent shudder.
What brand fluid should i use?

So far this year i`ve taken the SHO for an 8hr round trip to Mark Nunnally`s,and a 10 hour round trip to Carlisle Pa,both leaving from Rochester.I`d feel more comfortable driving the SHO across country that in stop and go city traffic.

MOSHO92-Just the fact that you took time to ask such questions before your trip shows me your SHO is well taken care of.Don`t worry, and have a good trip!

Call that place back and ask them what kind to use. That is the kind you won't use. Those guys sound like just about every McLube place out there, not real sharp. How could tranny **** cause/fix a shudder. If your mtx is shuddering and it is fluid related, you got big trouble comin' soon.
