I took my mks to the dealer for some warranty issue and the loaner car they gave me was a mkz 3.0 awd. It's quick, but not as fast as my Torrie tuned mks. I thought I would really like this car, but I just can't seem to get into it. It feels smaller and more sporty than my car. I can feel more of a difference between comfort and sport suspension compared to my car. I still prefer my mks over this, the Continental may be a different story though.

I had the same impression when I got a ride in a Fusion. My salesman and I went to the service location to take a look at my 2016 they had just transported. Not performance wise, but size inside, ride, everything.

Maybe a Fusion Sport with the 2.7 would be OK - but I suspect not - I like my boat. :)

I have a 3.0 Continental. I agree that it is not nearly as quick as a tuned MKS. I think it would hold its own for the first 60 feet or so since it has a 3.39 axle vs 2.77 on the MKS but after that, the MKS would drive away from it.

Unfortunately, since the 3.0 engine is exclusive to Lincoln and there is no high volume Ford counterpart, the tuners pretty much ignore it. That is really my only regret in having the Conti. There is a tune for the 3.0 MKZ but, so far, the only track results I have seen for it are disappointing.

Off-topic slightly, but I was glad to see Ford and Lincoln both offering the same engines across the board, like the 3.5EB, or the 3.7L NA (in the Edge Sport, etc). In the past, we always had the 4.6 DOHC or 5.4L DOHC modulars in Lincolns, but hardly ever in Fords, and it made the engines sort of a white elephant and somewhat rare.

Too bad they are going back in that direction again. Maybe at some point, they'll put the 3.0EB into the Fusion Sport and other vehicles. We can only hope.

A great thing about the 3.5 ecoboost is that tuners have had TONS of experience with it. I have no idea how many Livernois has had in their shop but it would be a lot. Torrie, BCB and AJP know these engines inside out. Over the years, the tuners have continually refined and improved the tunes and many different versions are available.

Now with the 3.0, as far as I know, Livernois has only had one MKZ in their shop and and no Continentals. There have been no revisions to the MKZ 3.0 tune that I know of. SCT doesn't seem too interested so most tuners have nothing for the 3.0.

The 4.6 DOHC is hardly a white elephant and rare engine. It was found in Mustangs from 1996-2010. Since the Mustang is such a big seller it's incredibly common and has a huge aftermarket following. I believe the 5.4 was also a standard F150 (again, best selling truck with lots of aftermarket) in that same time period. Depending on which variant of the 4.6 you want, they are dirt cheap. I would say there are more 4.6 and 5.4 Ford motors out there than Lincolns.

The 4.6 DOHC was only in Cobras, Lincoln Mark VIIIs, the Maurauder and I think Aviators. 04 and down Mustang GTs got SOHC 4.6s and 05-10 got the 3V. The 5.4 DOHC was only in Navigators up to 04 and the Cobra R. F150s got 2v then 3V either 4.6 or 5.4.

You are correct, I didn't interpret DOHC vs SOHC. Regardless, there are plenty of them out there and they aren't rare at all. We're talking about an almost 15 year period where the "specialty" versions of every Mustang was produced as a 4V.

The Mach's also had DOHC.

True and with roughly 2 decades in production and tons of aftermarket support there is plenty of parts out there.

I did go too far saying "rare" - but still, the DOHC 4.6/5.4 was only in Lincolns for the most part except the Mustang Cobra and Mercury Marauder.

Still, it's sad that Ford is going that "Lincoln gets the better engine" route again.

I guess I can see why they do it. They're wanting it to be a special engine that drives people to buy a Lincoln. If they put the 4V engine in all the vehicles, what would drive someone to buy the Cobra? Companies have to keep their top tier engines in a select few vehicles to incentivize people to buy those vehicles. The SHO is a prime example for me. I had basically zero reason to choose the MKS over the SHO as there was basically no difference except price and badging. There definitely wasn't enough difference for me to spend more on the Lincoln. But if the 3.5 EcoBoost was only in the Lincoln (or a more powerful version), I would have a Lincoln.

Yes. While the Mark VIII wasn't a high production car there were t ice as many than 4V Cobras.

Agreed. Also the 4Vs were relatively more complex and expensive compared to the 2V at the time which is part of the reason the Navigator went to the same 3V heads as the Expedition and F150. Its harder to justify the increase in price on more entry level models even it there is a performance increase for the average buyer.
