I am very sorry to hear about the thermostat. I've had one in my own personal vehicle for years so I can tell you this is not a common occurrence. If it's over a year old it is out of warranty unfortunately. If you'd be interested in getting a replacement let me know and I can always speak with management to see what we can do to help out.
Also if you guys are still running the v11 tune and have any issues with the 1-2 or 2-3 shift type of stuff there's an update we released a while back now that should take care of those issues. Please PM or email me your info including the tuner serial and I'll make sure you guys are up to date with the latest updated tunes.
Remember we originally sold the 170, and it definitely did not drop only 10 degrees. Most cars would never get warmer than 170, which made us look into the thermostats a bit more. We found them starting to open far before the advertised 170 temp, which explained why the cars ran colder than intended. As for carbon build up, no, 10* cht has little to no impact on carbon build up. If so emissions tests would happen at high engine temps only. Something that hasn't been the case in over 20 years. But are there other things at play with engine temps being too low? Absolutely
