o.k. this doesn't look good. while tooling around the SHO that has been out of service for a while, i noticed the spark plug wires that run into the engine (hope that's right, kind of new and learning by trying) i found that the plugs are sitting in a pool of oil. what does that mean. to me doesn't look good. any feed back would be greatly appreciated. thanx

A common problem. The plug well seals that seal the plug wells from the spray of oil in the heads are shot. Best advice I can give is to replace them. I tried sealing mine, and it didn't last long. After replacing them they have gone 20k without a problem.

Requires getting the gaskets (get the top-end set from SHO-nut) and pulling the intake and valve covers.

You CAN do this yourself, but if you're gonna take it to a shop expect to pay top $$$. I don't know what the labor hours are rated at in your area, but expect anywhere from $45 - $60 per hour and a minimun of 6 hours by a shop. You see, they can charge you the full hours for this type of work even it only takes 1/2 that.

Do buy the gaskets from ShoNut and shop around any local garages that have some Ford/SHO experience. Also, do a search on this forum for the plug well gaskets or similar and you'll find lots of info.

Don't sell her man!

Don't sweat the work. This is not that difficult. If you want to own this car I would suggest you attempt some of this work yourself to offset the high cost of replacement parts. Get the fel-pro upper? gasket kit online at AutoZone and get the plugs and wires from FordPartsNetwork. Torrie has the best prices on dealer parts (plugs and wires) 'cuz you need to use oem plugs and wires. Cost of parts I would guess 180-190+shipping. The work looks harder than it is. Lots of people here can talk you through it if necessary.

Like mentioned before, you need the Fel-Pro valve cover gasket set available at Autozone.com. for $72. It's not stocked at Autozone stores. I ordered mine a few weeks back and had it in 5 days via ground. The kit includes the plug well seals needed to fix the oil problem in the wells.
