My "92 with 138,000 just developed a knock/tick at between 2000 and 3500 RPM. I stopped driving it after I realized it might be a rod knocking (30 miles or so). Has anyone been able to simply replace the bearings after a rod knock? It seems to me that the knock is caused by the rod moving around and once this happens the crank will be scored.

Anybody?

Yup. The main thing is to measure your clearance on the rod big end. Also check that the bearings haven't scored the crank at all.

I just swapped bearing after a rod knock 38K ago. Still ok even after many blasts to 8000rpm.
