I just pulled the heads off the 3.0 that blew up because I have a friend who does a lot of head work for the corolla 4ag's and he wanted to see what kind of porting and polishing he could do on a sho head. Well this motor has been sitting uncovered in the rain for about 6 months. The cylinders where filled with water and sludge and it was **** trying to get the damn valves to come out of the head it was so corroded in there. I want to know did I ruin the heads? They are aluminum so I know they dont rust or anything. I can post pics. What method can I use to clean these up with?

If the heads are going to be completely rebuilt it won't matter much, IMO. Post up some pictures so we have a better idea.

Depends how corroded the valves are. They need to be able to seat correctly in the heads. Might just have to lap them, or you might have to source some new valves if the old ones are toast.

The cam bearing journals look fine. Maybe take some good scotch brite soaked in oil and polish them. I wouldn't do too much though. The heads need a good cleaning first and foremost. Get to work! Degreaser will work, also you could try some oven cleaner to get them very clean. Make sure to wear protective gloves and rinse the heads off thoroughly when done.

that looks like a boat anchor to me. the center cylinder looks all beat up from the debris from a broken/melted piston, so its junk.

No broken/melted piston. Thay cylinder was filled with water so its just gunk build up.

It's too dirty to make an assumption like that in my opinion. As long as the deck of the head is flat and the valves seat correctly, then the head is fine.
