Ron,

Clearly your brain has gone soft with age and you no longer recall many SHO details. It will happen to all of us eventually.:angelnot: You used to know full well that the front swaybars came in 20.6, 22, and 24 mm sizes, so from the diameters alone (I mention 26 and 23 mm above) you should have realized that I was referring to the rear bar, as I did not specify in my original post. Specifying the donor years (89/90) should have jogged your memory as well:)

Without a Quaife, a 20.6 mm FRONT bar would be best, I have tested both smaller and larger sizes in high speed autocross. On a fast track (> 80 mph cornering) a 22 mm bar would be safer, assuming 89-93 MTX spring set.

Put down the bong.....your short-term memory is shot.

Here's YOUR quote:

"You are going to need (not want) a 26 mm sway bar off a 1989 or 1990 SHO - check that the factory 23 mm one has not already been upgraded. Otherwise your inside tire is going to turn to smoke on every corner exit, eventaully ejecting an aforementioned diff pin.
"

You were talking about a 26mm bar ON THE FRONT. I was kind and didn't correct you on that. Since you missed that, you whole post above was BS. Unless you believe that you can smoke the REAR tire and blow a diff pin.

STFU until you get your head out of your ass.

Hey Ron i have never heard of a 26mm bar up front on a 89-91, and i think every one here knows that ya tune how much front lift ,push and roll WITH the REAR bar and not the front.Point is i knew that he was talkin rear as soon as he said 26 to replace the 23 that is fairly common on 93s  up

I found it interesting in one of the last couple e-mails from the Lemons group that they trashed the SHO and apparently for good reason. No SHO has ever finished a Lemons race.

Considering at the Lemons South event in new Orleans 3 SHO's finished in the Top 35 (Highest placing 6th), Or how Kirk's SHO finishes, Or how El-Toro-Loco has finished, Or how Mark N's SHO has finished...I'd say that Email is ********.

Zak was exactly right. A 26mm bar, which has only ever come from the factory for the rear (as well as the 23mm), will reduce FRONT inside wheelspin at corner exit. Stiffening up the rear helps keep both front tires on the ground.

There are tradeoffs with handling, and one has to be careful to not make the car too loose, but making the rear stiffer than the front helps front grip. This can be done most cheaply either by making the rear bar stiffer or the front bar softer. It's not unusual at all for FWD cars to run no front bar at all for the same reason.

I've found that the 20.6/26 combo I have on my wife's car is about perfect for handling. Without other aids (strut tower braces) it is almost perfectly neutral. With the STBs it is much quicker and tends toward slight oversteer, which I prefer. Very manageable.

Well it's been 2 months since my last reply. Here's what we have done so far...Car stripped, monroe struts, moog springs, rebuilt the rear calipers and hubs, 96 front brake upgrade (junkyard) rebuilt the calipers and hubs, water pump, belts, seals, rod bearings, valve cover gaskets, plugs, wires, tore trans done and reinforced diff pins, trans vent, trans drain plug. Still have a lot of work left to do... Man this thing has a lot of wiring and relays...hope I haven't gotten rid of something I might need.

We are looking for wheels and tires...

Nice! Just removing a bunch of weight made my car feel completely different. Don't forget that if you remove the AC components as well to put the compressor shell back in after you gut it. It provides structural support. Good luck

how did you reinforce the diff pins? the weld fill method, or the halo ring method? I hope you chose the latter, it hasn't been tested in a true race application that I know of yet.

We were trying to get together for the Houston event in Feb but that is not going to happen. It looks like the event outside of Dallas in June for sure and possibly the one in Colorado. We did the "halo" ring method as shown in a post on this site using 3/16 rod. We created the ring beforehand though using a slip roll. It came out as a slight press fit. Before we did that we took everything apart. The internals of the trans looked beautiful. The pins roll pins looked perfect-no visible wear. This car has 154000 miles on it but if you looked at the gears you would think 4000. I don't know, maybe the last owner had it replaced??? The clutch looked almost brand new execpt for the deep ring worn into the the fingers of the pressure plate spring by the TOB.

Took the car to Hallet last weekend for it's first real shakedown. Performed wonderfully and posted a best lap time of 1:37 (cw).

Looks good....maybe a little too good for a Lemons car. Cant they give you some penalties if they dont believe its a $500 car?

Yup, team rat rod nest revival (or something along those lines) took first place. Jalopnik was pretty excited about it.

Check out Chumpcar's schedule as well, we'll have our crapcan SHO at Nashville this weekend for the Nashville Nine.

You still have time to enter the Iowa event for June (that is going to be a FAST track) and Chump is headed to Hallet in August!

We are planning on the Lemons race in Texas in June and then the Hallet race in August. After that we'll see how it goes.
