I purchased a 92 sho with unknown high mileage. My plans were plugs, wires, fuel filter, valve cover gaskets and Timing belt. When I drive it, it is slow to rev, I know it misses some due to oil in the plug holes and the wires falling apart. I was wondering if anyone has replaced the cam to cam small chains for this. With the valve covers off it looks like the tensioners are at or near full travel. Is this common? or even a problem? Its $200 for the chains would it be a waste? would its snappy quick revs return?

if the wires are falling apart, you replace the wires, not the cam chains. if the plug wells are full of oil, it will not have decent power.

push the tensioner down and lift the chain off the tensioner, then see how much side-to-side motion of the chain there is (from left to right on the car). if you can move the chain more than half its width side to side, then you should consider changing the chains. fyi, out of all the SHO motors I have had apart, I have only seen one set of chains that I thought should be replaced, so it is not common for that to be a real problem.
