Hey everyone I am in the works of creating my turbo setup and was wondering how I am going to launch this thing. I know the Taurus already has traction/bogging problems but I think if you slip the clutch right the car will go. I wanted to know if anyone has tried installing any kind of launch control on their boosted Taurus? I have one installed on my Alltrac and it works really nice! I think if you could wire it up right it should work just the same for a Taurus? Am I right? I know they make launch controllers for waste spark ignitions, just want to hear some thoughts on the matter. Thanks.

Come on now Jason, I think traction control would be a bit to hard to rig up!

By that, I mean your feet.

Launch control is useful when you have traction. When I use launch control on my STi, I slip and go.... And it really GOES. If I were to try anything like that on my SHO, I spin.

Well AWD does help...a lot! If you slip it slowly enough by the time you're off the clutch boost is there. Not to mention you could no lift shift and keep the boost up. I have seen Scott launch his, just enough slip. The problem is he is still waiting on boost off the launch. I think we should try it on his to see what happens, if it's still running....

Boost would be there by the time you would have traction anyway. Any more on higher boost will just rip them loose. My torque-less SC breaks them loose at the top of 1st and 2nd.

Scott's turbo is at the rear of the car. There will always be some type of delay, but that's what's been helping him get those launches.

soon, when the motor is back together and if i decide to keep the car, stage 5 axles and a two step will be in my future. launch control will no longer be an issue. build just enough boost to get off the line but minimize wheel spin... :)

i work too damn much. I keep getting transferred to "broken" shops to fix them. I'm at my 4th shop in less than a year now. I get them when they are losing money, fix them till they are making money, then get transferred to a different shop to do it all over again. I work 55 to 70 hours a week to do it... I've had the motor in my car in pieces for about 5 or 6 months now. :( I don't have enough time to do much of anything anymore. hence the reason I may sell the car once it is fixed. I don't have enough time to devote to her if it breaks again...... :(

unless by some odd chance I get a crankshaft tomorrow, then most likely not. even if I did, probably not because I have to work on saturdays and usually can't take them off... there is always next year I guess. First time I haven't taken the sho to the track in 7 years...

I think I have the only V6 SHO with aftermarket launch and traction control. It was expensive and a pain to install but it does work. The launch control feature is nice, but since we don't drag race the car, it is really not needed. The traction control is interesting because I sometimes forget it is there until I get a little to heavy on the loud pedal, and it kicks in to keep the car accelerating and going the direction I have it pointed. The slip percentage is adjustable, so you can dial in a reasonable amount of slip for performance driving. I don't know if I would do it again due to the cost and time, but you can look at the equipment I used here:

If you decide you want to install a setup, I can give you pointers, and I think I know where you can buy an new kit locally.

That is a sweet setup! Not sure I am a fan of traction control but the launch control would be awesome. Does the launch control work when you push in the clutch? That way you can "no-lift" shift to keep boost up.

depending on where you put the activator, yes, it will. There are buttons out there made for the clutch pedal that could be modded to work with our setup...

No-lift shift on a boosted SHO will most certainly break axles and transmissions REGULARLY.

That's the beauty of having a rev limiter once you push the clutch in. Instead of no lift shift with 7k to 8k rpms, your letting the clutch out with 3600 to 4500 rpms, which in most high revving situations is less than what your desired rev match would be for the next gear. Not to mention the fact that the rpms are still dropping, if you shift fast enough, which creates a close to perfect rev match on the upward shift. The rev limiter in between gears may almost eliminate spin after shifting and most drivetrain shock as well due to this almost perfect match with no clutch drop.

No lift shifting is to keep the turbo spooled. I've got it on the STi. ;) a SHO wouldn't take too kindly to that abuse. With it properly set up, the boost in the next gear will lurch the car instantly in the next gear. It's abusive on my "built" from the factory STi transmission, so I only use launch control and lift to shift.

with proper "clutching" that's a non issue slip the clutch just enough with it and the lurch is all but gone.

IN theory anyways 8)
